It's sad that many women have to abort their wanted pregnancies because of severe nausea and vomiting during pregnancy—Hyperemesis Gravidarum (HG). Many health workers dismiss HG as mere morning sickness hence women don't receive optimal care needed or nothing at all. HG is treatable. This preventable suffering should not be normalised anymore.
It was a great opportunity to physically present HG care in Uganda at this global stage; International Collaboration for Hyperemesis Gravidarum in Bergen, Norway 🇳🇴 while learning from world's best experts, scientists and researchers on HG. This conference room had the highest concentration of HG experts per square metre anywhere on earth.
I learnt a lot from keynote speakers, presenters, attendees and patients; to mention but a few Marlena Fejzo Marc Vaudel Loïs van der Minnen Rebecca Painter Aimee Brecht-Doscher Ksenia Kuznetsova Hamilton Morrin Emily Branham, PhD Dr. Danielle Plummer, PharmD Rita Wanyenze Andrew Housholder Akiko Iwakuni Zainab N. Kimber MacGibbon, MS, RN Hilde Erdal Trovik Jone Clare Hughes
This fresh knowledge will benefit thousands of women and health workers in Uganda.

VOMITING AND PREGNANCY
Aboard KLM Airlines safely landed in Norway 🇳🇴 where I will present at the International Conference on Hyperemesis Gravidarum (ICHG) 18–20th May organised by International Collaboration for Hyperemesis Gravidarum. The conference brings together scientists, researchers, patients with lived experiences and caretakers with focus on Hyperemesis Gravidarum (HG ) care, awareness and research.

HG is a potentially life-threatening condition characterised by severe nausea and or vomiting in pregnancy before 16 weeks gestation leading to dehydration, weight loss, electrolyte imbalance among other complications to the mother and unborn baby. It's treatable but usually dismissed as morning sickness and most people in communities think it's normal and some believe it's a sign that the unborn baby is growing well.

I thank the University of Bergen, HER Foundation, European Coucil for Research for the support and invitation to attend this biennial conference.
●●● In 2026 pregnant women should not suffer when care exists.

Wait for conference updates.

DONATED BREASTMILK IS BETTER AND AVAILABLE IN YOUR COUNTRY
1. Breastfeeding remains the best option for all babies with endless benefits to the child, mother, and father.
2. Expressed breast milk for later consumption is the second best option for working mothers.
-0-0- Baby formula companies seem to care more about profits and less about you, your child's health and next generation.

ICYMI: For many years, Mbale has been the best Regional Referral Hospital in Uganda serving over 4.6 million people from 17 districts since 1924.
'Mbale Main' as fondly called by locals is among the top five hospitals in Uganda you should go to for comprehensive healthcare. It has 450-bed capacity offering general and specialised care. Bravo to all health workers in Masaba land.

Mbale RRH is the home to Busitema University Faculty of Health Sciences since 2013 and Mbale COHES since 1958. This has greatly increased the hospital's impact on the community churning out competent medical doctors, anaesthetic officers, clinical officers, nurses among others.

Sidenote: Ex Vice President, Prof. Gilbert Bukenya, for many years, practised medicine at Mbale Referral Hospital before joining politics. Mbale people miss him so much.

POVERTY KILLS MORE HUMANS THAN ALL DISEASES COMBINED

Yesterday, we freely served healthcare to vulnerable people in rural areas of Nebbi district, Northern Uganda.
Mrs. Ociba Elizabeth's case stood out with a gross facial tumor. The tumor has blinded her left eye in just 2 years. It began gradually as a small pimple-like swelling that has grown to this magnitude. She can't afford the surgery.
Hopefully, we will be operating on her before May 2026.
Let us always seek medical attention early enough rather than waiting for complications then rush to health facilities when it's too late.

📸 Elizabeth consented to publish these photos.
