🚲 Strengthening Community Healthcare in Amuru District
SocMed Global Uganda, in partnership with World Bicycle Relief and with support from the Merck Family Foundation, is implementing the CareConnect Amuru Project to strengthen last-mile healthcare delivery in Amuru District.
We are excited to have officially launched this partnership on Friday, 8th May 2026, in a ceremony officiated by Hon. Lucy Akello, the Woman Member of Parliament for Amuru District. The launch marked an important milestone toward improving mobility for frontline community health workers and strengthening community health systems across the rural communities of Amuru.
Through this collaboration, 85 Buffalo Bicycles and spare parts for 30 bicycles will be procured by SocMed Global Uganda which will be matched with 105 Buffalo Bicycles donation by World Bicycle Relief. These bicycles will be distributed to Village Health Teams (VHTs) to equip them with reliable mobility, enabling them to reach more households and deliver essential health services more efficiently across rural communities.
VHTs continue to play a critical role in improving community health through immunization support, health education, household follow-ups, referrals, and community sensitization. By addressing mobility barriers, the CareConnect Amuru Project seeks to strengthen community health systems in a sustainable and locally driven way.
As SocMed Global Uganda, we are proud to partner in advancing health equity, expanding access to healthcare, and building stronger community-centered health systems in Amuru District and beyond.

🎉 *A moment of pride, partnership, and progress!* 🎉

We are excited to share that SocMed Global Uganda has received one-year funding worth 25,000 euros from the *Merck Family Foundation* to implement the CareConnect Amuru project, which is dedicated to strengthening primary health care access in rural Amuru District.

At the heart of this work are the *Village Health Team (VHT) members* serving the communities of Amuru District. These community Health Heroes support 30 to 50 households, conduct regular outreaches, and make life-saving referrals, helping reduce under-five mortality and home deliveries, and improving maternal and child health.🌟
Yet, mobility remains a major challenge. Without reliable transport, reaching distant households and responding quickly to help needs becomes difficult.

🚲CareConnect Amuru is the solution.
With support from the *Merck Family Foundation*, we will provide bicycles to VHTs and strengthen a VHT-run bicycle repair workshop, building a sustainable, community-owned mobility initiative.

Throughout 2026, we will work closely with the *Amuru VHTs association* and other partners to strengthen frontline health delivery, empower the VHTs, and lay a strong foundation for long-term impact and partnerships.
