As an , what skincare essentials do most people miss? What are your top tips for skincare?
1. Dont use soap or face wipes on your skin. The natural ph of skin is 5.5. Most face wipes and soap have a higher ph and face wipes on particular have a lot of preservatives and alcohol to increase their shelf life which can damage and dry out skin. Cotton pads and stick to neutral or ph balanced cleansers. Cream cleansers are good for moisturising.
2. Ever made a fruit salad and left it in the fridge for a while and itβs started to turn brown? Thatβs because oxygen gets to it and it starts to oxidise. But if you put lemon juice (vitamin C) on it it stays fresh. Same for you skin. Always start the day with vitamin C itβs an antioxidant and will essentially help prevent your skin from oxidising and decaying.
Sun block. Always sunblock. Everyday. The higher SPF the better. UVA and UVB rays both bad for your skin. UVB responsible for burns and skin cancer and UVA causes premature ageing (wrinkles and sagging) always sunblock even if itβs not sunny.
3. Night cream containing Vitamin A (retinol cream/retinoids acid). You can buy it in low concentrations over the counter; higher concentrations are on prescription only but usually you would start at a low concentration and work up. This essentially increases skin turnover and helps get rid of dead skin cells ; kind of like a mild skin peel. It helps the skin look radiant, as well as keeping fine lines at bay. If you use vitamin A it is even more important to use an SPF to protect the newer delicate skin cells from harsh UV rays. Same reason as to NOT use vitamin A through the day, so only use at night time.
Hope this is useful!
