Prostate cancer is a type of cancer that begins in the prostate, a small gland in the male reproductive system located below the bladder. The prostate produces some of the fluid that makes up semen.

Prostate cancer develops when cells in the prostate begin growing abnormally and uncontrollably. Many prostate cancers grow slowly and may cause little or no harm for years, while some types are more aggressive and can spread to other parts of the body, particularly the bones and lymph nodes.

Early prostate cancer often causes no symptoms. When symptoms occur, they can include difficulty starting or stopping urination, a weak urine stream, needing to urinate frequently (especially at night), blood in the urine or semen, or—when cancer is advanced—persistent pain in the back, hips, or pelvis. These symptoms can also be caused by non-cancerous prostate conditions.

Doctors may investigate prostate cancer using a PSA blood test, a prostate examination, imaging such as MRI, and, when necessary, a biopsy to confirm whether cancer is present.

Treatment depends on how aggressive and advanced the cancer is and may include active surveillance, surgery, radiation therapy, hormone therapy, chemotherapy, or other medicines.

What you need to know about Piles

01/09/2026

The more we come to learn about the affect that nutrition can have on our health, the more we’re naturally looking at different ways which we can improve our dietary habits. Including fresh juice is one way we can do that, and regular consumption brings with it a myriad of health benefits, especially if we’re on a healing journey.

Here are 6 ways drinking fresh, raw vegetable/fruit juices can help us:

1) Vegetables and fruits are packed with disease fighting vitamins, minerals and nutrients:
Most common types contain a great balance of vitamins A, B’s, C, and macro minerals such as iron, potassium, magnesium and calcium. Not only this, but many are also loaded with antioxidants and anti-inflammatory phytonutrients, including berries, citrus fruits and dark green leafy vegetables, which help to prevent and fight disease.

2) Vital nutrients and enzymes are more quickly and easily absorbed:
A masticating juicer removes the pulp, so our bodies have to do far less work accessing the nutrients in the juice. This means the enzymes present in many raw fruit and veg (enzymes are crucial for our bodies to heal and function optimally) are more bioavailable and reach our cells much quicker, which is where the important work of healing begins. Removing the pulp is also especially beneficial for those who may have compromised digestive systems.

3) Enables more variety in daily fruit/veg intake:
It’s so important to consume a wide variety of different types of fruit and vegetables every day (you might have heard the term “eat a rainbow”). And government guidelines recommend we eat at least 5 portions per day, with some being of the opinion that this should be a lot more, especially considering the increasing soil deficiencies. Different types of fruit and veg contain a variation of different nutrients, and we need to find the right balance. However, eating lots of whole or blended (i.e. smoothies) fruit and vegetables leaves us feeling full very quickly. Because most of the insoluble fibre is removed when juicing, we’re able to consume a much larger amount than if that fibre were to remain.

4) Powerful detoxifier:
Healing starts at cellular level, and drinking juice allows the best opportunity for essential nutrients to flood our cells. Modern living means our bodies are constantly barraged by toxins, and it’s the cells that hold on to these, which can eventually lead to disease. By drinking fresh, raw juice, the living enzymes being carried around our bloodstream helps begin the process of pushing out toxins from our cells, and we’re giving our body the best chance at returning to homeostasis.

5) Promotes healthy eating habits:
When we make changes to our diets and our bodies respond positively, this encourages us to be mindful in other dietary choices. So by making room for even a small amount of fresh juices in our diet (even if it’s not everyday), gradually we’ll allow less space for foods that aren’t healthy or beneficial. This has a knock-on effect and eventually, we (and our shopping baskets) will be less tolerable to junk food/drinks.

6) Promotes Weight Loss:
Drinking juice loads your cells with all the life-giving nutrients, vitamins and enzymes they need. In turn, this leads to a reduction in cravings for things like sugar, junk or processed food. Your body knows it already has everything it needs so it won’t be continually asking for food.

Remember…

People only consuming the ‘SAD’ diet (‘Standard American’) are slowly starving themselves towards dis-ease.

Juicing is one tool we can use to aid our bodies back to health, and encourage it to remain healthy. But it must be used as part of a balanced diet, especially to replace the insoluble fibre and calories that are otherwise missing from juices.

Most fruits contain high amounts of sugar, which in excess can lead to a host of problems including diabetes. Try to aim for a 70/30 (or even better, 80/20) ratio of vegetable/fruit in your juices.

Always buy organic where possible – most inorganic produce these days are grown using pesticides and a host of other toxic chemicals. To juice these could be compared to drinking concentrated pesticides, so look for organic, preferably locally farmed food.

Avoid store-bought juices, which have been pasteurised. This heating process kills the otherwise live, beneficial enzymes.

The prostate gland is located beneath the bladder. The tube that moves urine from the bladder out of the p***s is called the urethra. This tube passes through the center of the prostate. When the prostate gets bigger, it starts to block urine flow.

The prostate is a gland that typically keeps growing throughout life. This growth often enlarges the prostate enough to cause symptoms or to block urine flow.

It isn't clear what causes the prostate to get bigger. It might be due to changes in the balance of s*x hormones as you grow older.

Risk factors.
Risk factors for an enlarged prostate include:

➡️Aging. An enlarged prostate gland rarely causes symptoms before age 40. After that, the chance of having an enlarged prostate and related symptoms starts to rise.

➡️Family history. Having a blood relative with prostate problems makes you more likely to have problems with your prostate.

➡️Diabetes and heart disease. Studies show that diabetes might raise the risk of BPH. So might heart disease.

➡️Lifestyle. Obesity raises the risk of BPH. Exercise can help lower the risk.

Complications.
Complications of an enlarged prostate can include:

✔️Not being able to p*e. This also is called urinary retention. You might need to have a tube called a catheter placed into your bladder to drain the urine. Some people with an enlarged prostate need surgery to get relief.

✔️Urinary tract infections (UTIs). Not being able to fully empty the bladder can raise the risk of infection in the urinary tract. If you often get UTIs, you might need surgery to remove part of the prostate.

✔️Bladder stones. These are most often caused by being unable to fully empty the bladder.
Bladder stones can cause illness, bladder irritation, blood in the urine and blocked urine flow.

✔️Bladder damage. A bladder that doesn't empty fully can stretch and weaken over time. As a result, the muscular wall of the bladder no longer squeezes properly to force urine out. And this makes it harder to fully empty the bladder.

✔️Kidney damage. Pressure in the bladder from not being able to p*e can damage the kidneys or let bladder infections reach the kidneys.

Treatment for BPH lowers the risk of these complications. But urinary retention and kidney damage can be serious health threats.

Having an enlarged prostate is not thought to raise the risk of getting prostate cancer.
