Delivering impact in some of Uganda’s most remote settings means turning complex challenges into tangible results.

This week, Baylor Foundation Uganda’s Senior Management Team, led by Executive Director Dr. Dithan Kiragga, is on the ground across Moroto, Kapchorwa, and Kaabong districts—providing hands-on technical support to frontline health facilities.

In regions where resources are limited, consistent positive feedback across all levels of care is uncommon. Yet, this is the progress we are witnessing.

With support from the U.S. Department of State and the Ministry of Health Uganda, Baylor Foundation Uganda is working closely with district leaders and health workers to strengthen service integration, address persistent challenges, and build sustainable, resilient systems in the “new normal.”

During this visit, the team has engaged with Moroto Regional Referral Hospital, District Health Offices, Kaabong Hospital, Malaba HC III, Rupa HC III, and Karenga HC IV.

Encouragingly, we are seeing measurable improvements in maternal and child health outcomes, stronger health facility systems, and better integration of services.

This is what progress looks like—collaborative, consistent, and community-driven.

🌍 A MAJOR PUBLIC HEALTH MILESTONE FOR UGANDA 🌍

Today marks a powerful step forward for newborn health as the Ministry of Health- Uganda, with support from Baylor Foundation Uganda, officially launched nationwide mandatory newborn screening for sickle cell disease.

What started as a scale-up journey from Kayunga to Lira has, in less than two years, expanded to reach the entire country 🇺🇬👏🏾
This achievement reflects strong collaboration, shared vision, and unwavering commitment from multiple partners.

This means:
✔️ Earlier detection
✔️ Timely care
✔️ Better health outcomes for our babies

Heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Dithan Kiragga (Our Executive Director), Dr. Denise Josephine Birungi (Our Director of Programs), Dr. Angella Mirembe and the entire SCD team for the exceptional leadership that made this possible.

Together, we are shaping healthier futures—right from birth 💙👶🏾

IN PURSUIT OF EXCELLENCE: Refurbishment has officially begun at Nakaseke Hospital laboratory!

The hospital administration and district leadership officially handed over the laboratory to the contractor. The construction, spearheaded by Baylor Foundation Uganda with support from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, is a major step towards preparing the laboratory for international accreditation in line with ISO 15189:2022. This is under Uganda’s Laboratory Quality Management System (LQMS) strengthening efforts.

We are proud of the twenty-two out of 27 laboratories supported by the Baylor Foundation Uganda that have achieved and sustained their international accreditation. Nakaseke Hospital laboratory is next!
