Letting go of grudges is hard—but holding them against yourself for what others did to you is even more damaging. When you blame yourself for someone else’s harmful actions, you carry a burden that was never yours to begin with. Whether it was mistreatment, betrayal, or neglect, their choices reflect *them*, not your worth. Blaming yourself distorts your self-image and keeps you stuck in pain that should have been left behind with their actions.

Healing begins when you stop internalizing the wrongdoing of others. Instead of reliving what happened and questioning your own actions endlessly, acknowledge that you deserved better and start giving yourself the compassion you were denied. Forgiveness in this case doesn’t mean excusing what happened—it means freeing yourself from a cycle of self-blame and emotional punishment. You owe it to yourself to move forward, not chained to someone else’s cruelty.
