We have treated LOTS of rattlesnake envenomations this past week 😮🐍🚑‼️Rattlesnakes are moving and creating a lot of pain and suffering for many of our patients.

Please remember that the only true treatment for rattlesnake envenomation is the administration of ANTIVENOM. Antivenom is NOT the vaccine and is expensive but it is the only truly effective treatment. We also administer IV fluids, pain meds and anti inflammatories while they are in the hospital. We closely monitor the patient’s over all condition along with their bloodwork to determine when all the venom has been neutralized. Venom has many toxic properties. The most devastating things we see from the venom are damage to the red blood cells, clotting factors and the tissue associated with the bite. It is always an emergency any time your pet receives a rattlesnake bite and requires immediate veterinary care. We also recommend you consult with your vet about the pros and CONS of the rattlesnake vaccine.

Talk about a CRAZY accident! Poor Patch somehow managed to get a crazy long piece of rebar stuck DEEP in his eye socket! MIRACULOUSLY nothing major was injured 🤯 His mom and his Vet both thought it was a short stick stuck in there based on how happy and care free he was acting. You can see Dr. Christie Clinton’s shock and surprise when the ‘short stick’ just kept getting longer and longer and LONGER! He sustained a superficial abrasion on his cornea and avoided a nasty infection in the deeper tissues thanks to some antibiotics and to the fact that he is TOUGH ❤️ We checked with mom recently and she said he never missed a beat and that he is all healed up now! We ❤️ you Patch!

‼️ WARNING ‼️ Graphic pics but SUCH a happy ending ❤️ The handsome and oh so energetic boy pictured below is named Dre. He was in a vicious dog fight right after the first of this year. As you can see from the original pics, his injuries were SEVERE and could have ended with his leg being amputated. At least two of his major lower limb muscles were severed and part of his bone chipped during the fight. At first, his injuries seemed like they were not going to heal. He developed a nasty infection shortly after his first vet visit. But after remarkable DEDICATION from his momma and DILIGENT, DAILY sedated wound care from his veterinary team… the wounds began to heal, he regained function in the injured limb!! And as you can see from the last pic…he made a full recovery like only this sweet, crazy boy could do! Damage like this doesn’t usually end with such a happy ending. No doubt this story is a testament to his momma’s love and his veterinary team’s dedication and meticulous efforts ❤️‍🩹

Pictured below: The initial injuries, a week into daily sedated wound care, two weeks into daily sedated wound care, and then Dre and his momma about 8 weeks after initial presentation to the EVC ❤️

Good Morning ❄️

We have been preparing for the Winter Storm the last few days. The Emergency Veterinary Clinic will open today at 5p and be open the duration of the weekend.

Here are some tips for your pets during this winter storm!

Another trick we’ve seen is laying out a tarp in a section of your yard so that your dogs have grass that’s not covered in winter mix! Just uncover and cover as they go outside to potty!

Everyone stay safe and keep your pets warm!

🐾 HAPPY VET TECH WEEK 🐾

The amount of grit it takes to be a vet tech is something you just don’t quite understand until you’ve been a vet tech.

ER technicians require just a little more in our opinion. It takes special staff to work strictly emergency. They have love the thrill of never knowing what is coming thru the doors, constant organized chaos, coupled with high emotion situations all while knowing the case load can become downright overwhelming! They dig deep and push thru knowing they are helping your pet.

Your pet is what drive them! 🥹

We are beyond thankful for the hard work our staff put in at night, weekends and major holidays. Did you know our shifts, at minimum, are 12 hours long?!
