When patients have come to Inertia Physio & Pelvic Health after experiences at other physical therapy clinics, they frequently comment on our unique approach.

We believe that addressing the whole person and not just their symptoms is how to create lasting change.

We believe in one on one care that can adapt within the session based on what the patient needs.

We believe in empowering our patients with education on their nervous system and how stress affects their body.

Exercise is safe AND encouraged throughout a healthy, uncomplicated pregnancy.
However, one woman’s symptoms and experience throughout pregnancy can be entirely different from another’s.

For this reason it’s important to understand the anatomy that is affected by a growing baby- namely “the core canister” that consists of the deep abdominals (transverse abdominis), deep back muscles (multifidus), pelvic floor muscles, and respiratory diaphragm.

Symptoms of poor pressure management through the core canister can include doming/coning in the abdominals, urinary leakage, pelvic/vaginal pressure or pain, back or tailbone pain to name a few.

Some great ways to modify common strength exercises:

💪🏼Pull-ups =keep feet elevated on wall or stool to reduce doming/pressure on a diastasis

💪🏼Push-ups= elevate hand placement onto mat, bench, or counter to reduce strain on abdomen

💪🏼 Forward plank= lower knees into all fours position and focus on contracting deep abdominals with exhale

💪🏼 Bike trainer= elevate handlebars with foam roller/ towel rolls and drink plenty of water!

💪🏼Weight lifting= This is not the time to max out! Decrease resistance to a load you can handle without a weight belt and while exhaling through the lifts.
✨Most importantly✨ when it no longer feels good or fun, modify to move in a way you still enjoy!

Depending on prior level of fitness, a daily walking program could be an excellent place to start 👍🏼
