Washing your armpits after shoulder surgery is one of those things you don't really think about until you're post-op and wondering "how the heck do I do this?" The key here is to use something called "passive motion", where you use gravity and body mechanics to move your limbs without actually using the muscles that are recovering. Dr. Ayzenberg shows us how in this video!

Note: This video is meant for patients who undergo shoulder surgery with Dr. Ayzenberg. If you are not a patient of Dr. Ayzenberg, please check with your surgeon to ensure this technique suits your situation.

Treating an "unfixable" “Hail Mary” rotator cuff case!

John was told by other doctors that his rotator cuff tear was essentially unfixable. He was struggling to lift, work, drive, and do the everyday things most of us take for granted — especially with a physically demanding job.

But with the right surgical plan, personalized care, and a team committed to giving him every possible chance at recovery, he has made incredible progress.

Now, he is lifting without significant difficulty, driving long distances without aching or pain, and getting back to the life and work he thought he might lose.

Proud of this patient’s determination and grateful to be part of his recovery journey.

In an interview about his photography, Dr. Mark Ayzenberg said, “My goal is to create a sense of zen through my work rather than to carry a political cause. Some of my favorite moments was watching patients and families stop in the hallway of Einstein Hospital (where I trained) and take time to look at my work, which the hospital purchased. Everyone in the hospital is always rushing to get somewhere. No one is there to admire art. The fact that my photography was able to stop people in the hallways was extremely humbling and gratifying.”

Recovery Update! If you saw Tim’s initial quadriceps tear injury video, you know it was tough. But now, I’m excited to share the incredible progress Tim has made just 2 months after his surgery! Thanks to the power of PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma), Tim’s recovery has been nothing short of remarkable. PRP harnesses the healing factors in your own blood to accelerate tissue repair, reduce inflammation, and promote quality healing. In Tim’s case, it’s helped him get back on his feet and to the gym much faster than we could’ve hoped despite a particularly bad quadriceps tear. The results speak for themselves!

Want to know more about PRP therapy and how it might be able to help you? Head to our website and schedule a consultation with us today. https://bit.ly/4mWvVQS

In this video, Dr. Ayzenberg demonstrates one of the first exercises patients may begin once sensation returns to the hand: slow shoulder shrugs.

Keeping the shoulders gently moving can help reduce stiffness and discomfort in the upper back and neck as the body adjusts after surgery.

Always follow your surgeon’s specific post operative instructions, but remember, recovery often starts with simple, consistent steps.

John came to Dr. Ayzenberg after years of dealing with a severe rotator cuff tear.

Multiple surgeons had told him the tear was unfixable, and he was trying to avoid a shoulder replacement. This was what Dr. Ayzenberg describes as a “Hail Mary” rotator cuff surgery.

Before surgery, John said it felt like something sharp was stopping him from lifting his arm higher. Reaching behind his back was not possible, and even basic shoulder movement was limited.

Now, 6 months after rotator cuff surgery, he is raising his arm overhead, rotating outward, and reaching behind his back with a level of motion that shows just how far he has come.

Even better, his repair was confirmed healed on MRI.

Every shoulder injury is different, but progress like this is why personalized orthopaedic care matters. If you are dealing with joint pain or have been told replacement is your only option, schedule a consultation with us today: https://bit.ly/4mWvVQS
