Still Tired After Sleeping? Here’s What Your Body Might Be Saying

“Why do I feel tired even after getting enough sleep?"

A lot of people assume it’s just stress or a busy schedule—but when fatigue doesn’t go away with rest, it’s usually worth paying attention to.

It can be linked to things like low iron levels, thyroid issues, blood sugar imbalance, or even early signs of chronic conditions.

Your body isn’t supposed to feel drained all the time. If it does, there’s usually a reason.

If your energy hasn’t felt right for a while, it’s a good time to get it checked and understand what’s going on beneath the surface.

March is recognized as National Kidney Month — a time to focus on understanding how your body works, and what it may not be telling you.

Because when it comes to kidney health, one fact stands out:

Most people with kidney disease do not know they have it.

In the United States alone, more than 37 million adults are living with kidney disease — and approximately 90% are unaware. (National Kidney Foundation)

This is not because the condition is rare.
It is because it is often silent.

• Why Awareness Matters
Kidneys play a critical role in maintaining balance in the body — filtering waste, regulating fluid levels, and supporting blood pressure control.

However, chronic kidney disease (CKD) often develops without noticeable symptoms in its early stages. (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention)

By the time symptoms appear, the condition may already be advanced.

This is why early awareness — not just treatment — is essential.

• Who Should Pay Attention?
Kidney disease does not occur randomly. Certain factors significantly increase risk:

- High blood pressure
- Diabetes
- Heart disease
- Family history of kidney disease

In fact, 1 in 3 adults is considered at risk. (National Kidney Foundation)

For many patients, the first indication of a problem comes not from symptoms — but from routine testing.

• The Role of Early Detection
There is a practical advantage to knowing early.

Simple blood and urine tests can detect kidney disease before symptoms begin, when treatment is most effective. (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention)

Early detection allows for:

- Better management of blood pressure and blood sugar
- Slowing or preventing disease progression
- Reduced risk of complications, including heart disease

In clinical terms, timing changes outcomes.

• Understanding the Bigger Picture
Kidney health does not exist in isolation.

When kidney function declines, it can increase the risk of:

- Cardiovascular disease
- Stroke
- Long-term complications affecting multiple systems

Your heart beats about 100,000 times every single day.

• It does not take weekends off.
• It does not wait until life becomes less busy.
• And it rarely gives early warnings when something begins to change.

Which raises a simple question:

When was the last time you checked on it — before it asked for attention?

The Quiet Reality About Heart Health
Many of the conditions that affect heart health develop gradually:

• High blood pressure often has no symptoms
• Early kidney disease can go completely unnoticed
• Diabetes may progress for years before complications appear

Surprising, isn’t it?

In medicine, the absence of symptoms does not always mean the absence of risk.

That is why routine care matters — not because something is wrong, but because staying well requires information.

Your Heart Doesn’t Work Alone
Here are facts many people don’t realize:

• Your heart and kidneys are constantly working as partners.
• When blood pressure rises, both organs feel the strain.
• When kidney function changes, the heart compensates.
• When one system improves, the other often benefits.

This is why coordinated care matters.

At Cowry Health, primary care through Cowry Medical Group and specialty care through Cowry Kidney Care are designed to work together — because the body itself works that way.

A wellness visit is not a sign of illness.
It is simply a review — a chance to measure, adjust, and prevent problems before they grow. Practical. Efficient. Preventive.

Questions and Tips for February
• Have you checked your blood pressure recently?
• Do you know your current risk factors?
• Has it been more than a year since your last wellness visit?
• Are you managing health proactively — or reactively?

Remember, healthcare is rarely about dramatic changes. More often, it is about small decisions repeated consistently:

👉 Scheduling the visit.
👉 Asking the question.
👉 Following up sooner rather than later.

Not exciting, perhaps — but remarkably effective. And your heart tends to appreciate consistency.

Dear friends

Happy New Year — and welcome to 2026.

Whether you’re already on your health journey with us or just stepping through our doors for the first time, we want you to know this:

Health isn’t about perfection. It’s about support.
And no matter where you are today — we are here with you.

At Cowry Health — where Cowry Medical Group, Cowry Kidney Care, and American Clinical Trials work as one — we believe that your health should be supported, understood, and celebrated at every step.

This Month’s Focus: Reset Without Pressure.
January is about clarity, not guilt.
About gentle progress, not “quick fixes.”

Here’s how we can help you start the year feeling supported, informed, and empowered:

1. Schedule Your Annual Wellness Check

A check-in with your clinician isn’t about judgment —
it’s about clarity: understanding your body now so you can move forward with confidence.
Our internal medicine and primary care team at CMG is here to listen and guide you.

Pro tip: If you’ve been postponing that check-up — now is the perfect moment.

2. Take Care of Your Kidneys Early

Healthy kidneys are one of the foundations of overall well-being.
At Cowry Kidney Care, our specialists focus on prevention, early detection, and personalized kidney care for every stage of life.

If you’re at risk for kidney disease — because of diabetes, high blood pressure, or family history — regular monitoring can make all the difference.

3. Be Part of Tomorrow’s Medicine Today

Did you know that participating in a clinical trial can give you access to cutting-edge treatments and comprehensive health evaluations — often at no cost?
American Clinical Trials currently conducts studies in areas like kidney disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, and more.

Not only could you benefit personally — you could help shape future care for others.

Dear Friend,
October is a time for focus, not just observation. While the pink ribbon is a vital symbol of Breast Cancer Awareness, Cowry Health is committed to looking beyond the ribbon to empower your total health journey.

Did You Know? Breast cancer affects one in eight women in the U.S. during their lifetime. Early detection dramatically increases survival rates, but true wellness requires a coordinated approach to your entire system. This month, we highlight how all three pillars of Cowry Health work together to protect you.

Cowry Medical Group: Your Health Command Center
We know that navigating specialty care can be complex. Your primary care physician at Cowry Medical Group serves as your central coordinator for women’s health, ensuring you receive the best:

Clinical Breast Exams and education on self-awareness.

Annual Wellness Checks to manage systemic risk factors.

Seamless Referrals: We ensure you receive timely mammography and specialty GYN appointments with trusted partners, handling all the follow-up and integration of your results back into your comprehensive health record.

Question: When was your last well-woman visit or mammogram? If you're due, let us coordinate your next step.

Cowry Kidney Care: Supporting Systemic Strength
While not directly linked to breast cancer, the strength of your kidneys is crucial for managing overall health, especially if you face risk factors like high blood pressure or diabetes, or if you ever undergo cancer treatment.

Protecting Your Baseline: Our specialists ensure your renal function is optimal, reducing overall systemic stress.

A Safety Net: Maintaining robust kidney health provides a vital safety net, allowing your body to better process medications and endure rigorous treatment protocols, if ever necessary.

Did You Know?: Hypertension and diabetes—two major risk factors for kidney disease—are often managed most effectively through coordinated primary care and specialist intervention.

American Clinical Trials: Pioneering the Future of Care
Advancing breast cancer treatment and early detection relies heavily on clinical research. Participating in a trial through American Clinical Trials means you contribute directly to breakthroughs that will benefit your daughters and granddaughters.

We are constantly encouraging diverse participation to ensure new therapies are effective for all populations. Your involvement can lead to access to cutting-edge treatments before they are widely available.

Your inspiration: Be a pioneer for the next generation. Your health story can change the medical future.

Dear friends,

Here’s How to Enjoy this Season While Protecting Your Skin from UV Damage
Dear Regis

Did You Know:

Skin cancer is the most common type of cancer in the US, with over 9,500 people diagnosed every day (Source: The Skin Cancer Foundation)

UV exposure is a major risk factor for skin cancer and premature aging (Source: Centers for Disease Control and Prevention)

As we move forward, it's essential to remember that UV radiation is a year-round concern, not just limited to summer or specific events like the 4th of July. The risks associated with UV exposure include skin cancer, premature aging, eye damage, and immune system suppression.

Protecting Yourself from UV Radiation

• Skin Protection: Regular skin self-checks can help identify potential issues early on. It's crucial to be aware of changes in your skin, such as new or changing moles, and consult a dermatologist if you notice anything unusual.

• Eye Protection: Wear sunglasses that block 100% of UVA and UVB rays, and consider wrap-around styles for added protection. Don't forget to wear a hat with a broad brim to shield your face, ears, and neck from the sun.

• Clothing and Shade: Wear protective clothing, such as long-sleeved shirts and pants, and seek shade when spending time outdoors, especially during peak sun hours (10am-4pm).

Resources for UV Safety

The American Academy of Dermatology recommends practicing safe sun habits year-round, including seeking shade, wearing protective clothing, and applying broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher.

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention provide guidelines for sun safety, including tips for schools and employers to promote sun-safe behaviors.

By applying these lessons and taking proactive steps to protect ourselves from UV radiation, we can enjoy the outdoors while minimizing our risk of skin cancer and other UV-related health issues.
