What's Ms. Manda Reading Today?

It's another wonderful one......Understanding Your Child's Sensory Signals by Angie Voss, OTR

Have you ever wondered "why" your child may be doing something? Remember all "behaviors are communication"......and this book is a great tool to help you understand what your child may be communicating and how to help them.

Ms. Voss details out over 210 of the most common sensory signals and cues that your child may be giving you.

This book is not only great for parents but a wonderful book for teachers and therapists as well!

While reading this book if you need help please DM us -- we would love to help!

YES YES YES!!!!

When we take the time to learn how our kids think......then we are able to adjust the way we teach/talk/interact and help them so much more than if we try to teach all people the same way!

There is so much beauty in our differences💜💚

🌟 Therapist Spotlight: Ms. Ebanie! 🌟

This summer, we are excited to shine the spotlight on Ms. Ebanie, one of our incredible Speech-Language Pathologists!

Ms. Ebanie is currently in her second summer with KidSpeak, LLC, and we have loved watching the positive impact she continues to make with our children, families, and therapy team.

This summer, Ms. Ebanie is leading Friendship Camp 5, Friendship Camp 2, Social Schoolers, and providing individual therapy services. She consistently brings compassion, professionalism, creativity, and energy into every session. She has done an outstanding job building meaningful relationships with her patients, collaborating with families, creating engaging child-centered activities, and working alongside fellow therapists to support each child's communication, social, play, and emotional regulation goals.

Ms. Ebanie earned her B.A. in Psychology from The University of Texas at Austin and her M.S. in Communication Sciences from The University of Texas at Dallas. She also brings valuable experience from both home health and Dallas ISD, where she supported children with a variety of communication needs, including autism spectrum disorder, cerebral palsy, intellectual and developmental disabilities, articulation disorders, and language delays.

Families and therapists alike appreciate Ms. Ebanie's warm personality, dedication, flexibility, and ability to help children feel successful, confident, and understood. Her passion for supporting children and families shines through in everything she does, and we are so grateful to have her as part of our KidSpeak team.

Currently, Ms. Ebanie's schedule is full, but if you are interested in learning more about KidSpeak, LLC and/or starting services this fall, please email us at [email protected].

🌟 Therapist Spotlight: Ms. Aiyana! 🌟

This summer, we are excited to shine the spotlight on Ms. Aiyana, one of our amazing Speech-Language Pathology Assistants (SLPAs)!

Ms. Aiyana has been a part of the KidSpeak family since 2017, and we have loved watching her grow over the years. She first joined us as a volunteer, then became a Shadow and Teacher Assistant, and eventually worked her way into her current role as an SLPA. Her dedication to learning and supporting children has been evident every step of the way!

In addition to being an SLPA, Ms. Aiyana has also worked as a Kindergarten Teacher at one of our favorite schools. She also has a Masters degree in Innovative Early Childhood Education and is currently pursing another Masters degree within Speech and Language Pathology at TWU. We are incredibly proud of all that she has accomplished and the passion she brings to helping children learn and grow.

This summer, Ms. Aiyana is participating in our Friendship Camp 3 Group and providing individual therapy services. She has done an outstanding job planning engaging, child-centered activities, building trusting relationships with her patients, collaborating with fellow therapists, and learning about each child's unique strengths in emotional regulation, play, language, and social communication.

Currently Ms. Aiyana's schedule is full but if you are interested in learning more about KidSpeak, LLC and/or starting services this fall please email us at [email protected].

Did You Know?

Reading books about feelings is a simple and purposeful way to help your child build emotional awareness and emotional regulation skills!

Books introduce children to a wide variety of emotions—beyond just happy, sad, and mad—such as frustrated, disappointed, worried, proud, nervous, excited, and more. As you read together, pause to talk about:

✨ How the character is feeling
✨ What clues tell us how they are feeling
✨ Why they might feel that way
✨ Times your child has felt the same emotion

These conversations help children expand their emotional vocabulary, develop empathy, and learn that all feelings are normal and okay to experience.

I'm Bored!!!

💜Each week this Summer we will be posting an “I’m Bored” visual for you all to use at home. Today is our Week #3 “I’m Bored Chart”!

💚Some families just post the "I'm Bored" chart somewhere for their kids to see and use throughout the day.

💜Other families create an "I'm Bored" box and place all the items in the box to make it easier for the kids to find these items, use them and clean them up.
Either way with all families -- they HAVE to first help them use the chart -- walking through all the steps together several times. We know this does take a lot of time -- but the more you do it together -- the more they will be able to do it alone =-- and the more helpful these charts will be. It may take a day for some kids and others this may takes weeks before they are able to do this skill 100% on their own. We also like to change up the chart/list every week or so --- to keep in engaging.

If you need help using these or have questions -- email or DM us -- we would love to help!

📚 What’s Ms. Manda Reading? 📚

This week in our "What’s Ms. Manda Reading?" series, we’re diving into ✨No More Meltdowns✨ by Dr. Jed Baker—a fantastic resource for parents, caregivers, and educators!

Meltdowns are a form of communication, often signaling unmet needs, big emotions, or sensory overload. In this book, Dr. Baker helps us understand the "why" behind meltdowns and offers practical strategies for managing them effectively.

What makes this book so impactful?
✔️ 4-step approach to reduce meltdowns before they escalate
✔️ Real-life examples that make strategies easy to apply
✔️ Recognizes behavior as communication—helping us understand what kids are trying to express
✔️ Our goal: Regulate in the moment, then teach children how to understand and use their communication skills for next time!

When we help kids regulate their emotions in the moment, we can then focus on building their communication skills so they can express their needs calmly and clearly in the future.
