Mrs. Deena M. Griffin, 60 of Sparks, Georgia passed away at her residence on May 13, 2026. Mrs. Griffin was born March 23, 1966 in Adel, Georgia to the late Larry W. Arnold and to Doris Franks Arnold of Lenox, Georgia. She lived most of her life in Cook County and was a member of the Lenox Baptist Church for over 50 years. She served as the music director for over 11 years. She was employed by the Cook County Board of Education for over 33 years where she taught at the Cook Middle School. Mrs. Griffin was a chaperone for the annual Washington, D.C. trip for 32 years.
Deena was an excellent student and was involved in many activities during her school years beginning at Lenox Elementary, then Sparks Elementary, Cook Junior High, and Cook High School. During her Junior High years she played clarinet in the band and served as drum major during her seventh and eighth grade years. She became active in Y-Club and in showing livestock which she continued for many years including being a member of the Cook County Livestock Association. For many years, she coordinated the Washington, D.C. trip for the eighth graders. At Cook High, she continued her success as a student and was the CHS Band as a player and as a member of the drill team. She was an Honor Graduate in the CHS Class of 1984. Continuing her education at Valdosta State, she received her Bachelor's Degree and began teaching Math at Cook Middle School in August of 1993. She went on to complete her Master's and Education Specialist degrees and was considered a master math teacher. She retired in 2023 after 30 years in the classroom. However, she returned to continue teaching (2023-2026) and taught on the last day of her life.
In August of 1983, Deena Arnold met Mike Griffin. After completing a day of summer band camp, Mike took her to the Dairy Queen and that was the beginning of their 43 years together. They Married on December 28, 1985.
Mrs. Griffin is survived by her husband, Mike Griffin; one son and daughter-in-law, Seth and Julie Griffin all of Sparks; one daughter and son-in-law, Shelby and Taylor Duke of Norman Park, Georgia; her mother, Doris Franks Arnold of Lenox, Georgia; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Dawn Arnold of Lenox, Landra and Mitch Denham of Sparks; her father-in-law, Gene Griffin of Adel, Georgia; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews also survive.
Mrs. Griffin's funeral will be at 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 16, 2026 in the Lenox Baptist Church Family Life Center with Rev. Tim Harris officiating and a eulogy to be given by Mr. Chad Sumner. Interment will follow in the Lenox City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Friday evening May 15, 2026 at the Lenox Baptist Church Family Life Center.

Mr. Tim "Doc" Giddens, Sr., 93, of Camilla, Georgia formerly of Adel passed away May 10, 2026 at Magnolia Place in Cairo, Georgia. Mr. Giddens was born September 6, 1932 at Sulfur Springs, Florida to the late Porter Lanier Giddens and the late Emma Mae Moncrief Giddens. He lived in Cook County most of his life before moving to Mitchell County in 2016. Tim served his country honorably during the Korean War on the U.S.S Bremerton battleship. After discharge in 1955, he and Derene made their home in Adel, Ga. He was a member of Gordon Avenue Baptist Church and later joined Salem Primitive Baptist Church.
In addition to being a veteran, he served many years at the Post Office, serving as Postmaster from 1971 to 1989, when he retired. He loved Cook County and served as a county commissioner for two terms. After retirement, he enjoyed farming, deer hunting, but most of all, fishing at their place in Palatka.
Doc was a family man and modeled what a good father and husband should look like. He faithfully carried his children to church so they would hear the gospel and surrender their lives to Jesus. In 2015, he married Barbara Hobbs and eventually moved to Hopeful, GA where he continued to help his son-in-law, Reggie with farming.
Doc was an avid sports fan. In addition of following the grandkids’ sports, he faithfully watched the Georgia Bulldogs and Atlanta Braves. For years, he was a devoted follower of the Cook High Hornets.
Known as “Doc” to most of his friends and family, he loved people, loved to laugh, was very creative and could figure out how to fix anything. His grandson recalled a time when he drilled a hole in a penny to make a washer because washers cost a lot more than a penny.
Everyone who knew Doc loved him and his quick wit! He will be greatly missed!
Mr. Giddens is survived by his wife, Bobbie Wilson Giddens of Camilla; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon and Dean Register of Hattiesburg, Mississippi; Jenny and Reggie Bostick of Camilla; daughter-in-law, Cherise Giddens of Adel; five grandchildren: Heather and Cord Sachs of Birmingham, Alabama; Wes and Nicole Register of Hattiesburg; Kiley Bostick and Kathleen Gillooly of New York, New York; Cale and Kristi Giddens; Garrett Giddens, all of Barney, Georgia; ten great grandchildren: Jeremiah and Mary Quinn Sachs of Auburn, Alabama; Ellie Sachs, Saddler Sachs, Judson Sachs, Josiah Sachs, Gideon Sachs all of Birmingham; Two Giddens and Cleve Giddens of Barney; Reid Bostick of New York; Walker Dean Register of Hattiesburg; one brother, Ronnie Giddens of Dothan, Alabama. In Addition to his parents, Mr. Giddens was preceded in death first wife, Derene Livingston Giddens; his son, Tim E. Giddens, Jr.; one grandson, Cleve Bostick; two brothers, Rogel Giddens and L. B. Giddens; two sisters, Lillian Howell and Loudell Greene.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 PM on Wednesday, May 13, 2026 at Salem Primitive Baptist Church in Adel with Elder Thad Marshall and Dr. Dean Register officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn City Cemetery. Visitation will take place from 2:00 to 3:00 PM at the church prior to the funeral service.

Mr. Ronnie Hughes, 69, of Adel, Georgia passed away on April 27, 2026 at the Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah, Georgia. He was born on July 12, 1956 to the late Walter Leon Hughes, Sr. and the late Myrtle Linda Gray Hughes. Mr. Hughes lived all of his life in Cook County and was a retired farmer. He was a member of Springhead Baptist Church.
Mr. Hughes is survived by his wife, Faye Gibbs Hughes of Adel; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Jake and Haley Hughes of Fitzgerald, Georgia and Josh Hughes of Adel; one granddaughter, Lyla Hughes of Adel; five sisters and four brothers-in-law: Donna Cole of Morven, Georgia, Wanda and Terry Huckabone of Hahira, Georgia, Bonnie and Harold Folsom of Adel, Kathy Jo and Jeff Holden of Berlin, Georgia, Christy and Rory Burger of Bloomfield, Missouri; one sister-in-law, Gail Hughes of Adel; and his uncle, Ronald Gray of Carrabelle, Florida. A host of nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to his parents, Mr. Hughes was preceded in death by two brothers, Walter Leon "W. L." Hughes, Jr. and Carl Wayne Hughes; and one brother-in-law, Jackie Cole.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 2, 2026 at Springhead Baptist Church with Rev. Joey Taylor officiating and a poem to be read by Britt Mainor. Interment will follow in the Springhead Church Cemetery. Visitation will take place from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the church prior to the service.

Mrs. Ramonda "Monie" Marshall, age 88, of Adel, Georgia, passed away on April 22, 2026 at the HCA Florida Memorial Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida. Mrs. Marshall was born on February 13, 1938 in Berrien County to the late Wilie Franklin Horne and the late Toy Gladys Crosby Horne. She lived most of her life in Cook County and was a homemaker. She was a member of Salem Primitive Baptist Church.
Mrs. Marshall is survived by her husband, Elder Dwight Marshall of Adel; two daughters and sons-in-law: Pam and Mario Lagrange of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, and Lynn and Pete Swengel of Thomasville, Georgia; seven grandchildren: Ashley and Eric Mitchell of Thomasville; Evan and Jessica Wood of Ochlocknee, Georgia; Amanda Wood of Thomasville; Dominique and Audrey-Anne Lagrange of Quebec City, Canada; Madison and Jeremy Rice of Nashville, Tennessee; Zane Varn Marshall and fiancée, Carlee Aldridge, of Monticello, Florida; and Lindsey Marshall of Valdosta, Georgia; and nine great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by one son, Elder Barry Marshall; one brother, Harry Horne; and five sisters: Laura Collins, Gladys Simmons, Sara Harbin, Frankie Ledbetter and Edna Swilley.

Mrs. Joleta Barker Atkinson, 79, of Adel, Georgia, passed away on April 23, 2026, at Pine Shadows Retirement Manor in Sylvester, Georgia. Mrs. Atkinson was born on February 25, 1947, in Adel, Georgia, to the late John Austin Barker and the late Martha Agnes Murphy Barker. She spent most of her life in Cook County and was a faithful member of Lenox Church of God. A devoted woman of faith, she loved the Lord deeply and lived her life as a reflection of that love.
She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother whose greatest joy came from her family. Her kindness, warmth, and steady presence left a lasting impression on all who knew her.
Mrs. Atkinson is survived by her two sons and daughters-in-law, Clark and Connie Wheeler of Arabi, Georgia, and Greg and Pam Wheeler of Sand Rock, Alabama; her cherished grandchildren, Richard Wheeler (Ashley), Ashley Mathews (Micah), Brandon Wheeler (Sharon), and Brittany Mulkey (Brandon); and her beloved great-grandchildren, Gavin, Holdan, Annalynn, Kainoa, Kaileia, Kaikoa, Eli, Avery and Cohen. She is also survived by her step-son and his wife, Lee and Stacey Atkinson of Eatonton, Georgia; her stepdaughter, Kim Atkinson Adams of Adrian, Georgia; five step-grandchildren; and her sister, Barbara Ray of Adel.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil “Gene” Atkinson.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, April 25, 2026, in the Chapel of Boone Funeral Home in Adel, Georgia, with Rev. Carlton Webb officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:00 PM on Saturday, prior to the
service, at Boone Funeral Home, 1804 South Hutchinson Avenue.
Mrs. Atkinson’s life was a testament to faith, love, and devotion to family. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by those who knew
and loved her.

Mr. Robert Vance "Bobby" Dean, Sr., age 86, of Sparks, Georgia, passed away on April 20, 2026 at Colquitt Regional Medical Center in Moultrie, Georgia. Mr. Dean was born in Cook County on January 9, 1940 to the late Charlie Woodard Dean, Sr. and the late Lila Connell Dean. He lived all of his life in Cook County and was a member of First Baptist Church of Adel. Mr. Dean retired from Aluminum Finishing where he was the production manager.
Mr. Dean is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Vance and Karen Dean from Thomasville, Georgia; his grandchildren: Kaylin Peterson of Valdosta, Georgia, Kelsey Peterson of Thomasville, Owen Peterson of Valdosta, and Ellie Dean of Thomasville; one brother, John Dean of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; and his best friend, Mickie Tyson of Sparks. He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, Charlie W. Dean Jr., Donald Faye Dean, William "Bill" Roscoe Dean, and infant brother, Joe Dan Dean.
In keeping with Mr. Dean's wishes he was cremated and a private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Mr. Roy Gilbert Sumner, age 87, went on to meet his Savior on April 19, 2026. He passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loved ones. Roy was a devoted Husband, Father, Grandfather, and Great Grandfather whose life was a testament to hard work, perseverance, patriotism and devotion.
Roy was born on November 10, 1938 in the Chaserville Community of Cook County to Grady and Lucille Sumner. He grew up on a farm in Cook County where he learned a strong work ethic and a love for the land. Roy left the farm in 1956 to join the United States Air Force where he served eight years active duty as a jet engine mechanic. After serving his country he worked for Delta Airlines for four years. His passion for farming never left, so he returned to Cook County 1968 to start his own farm. In 1977 he had a chance to buy Pine Valley Store, an Agri Supply business in western Cook County. Pine Valley was also a grocery store, gas, and hardware store. Roy was a very generous person and helped many small farmers and rural families survive the hard economic times of the late 1970s. In 1984 he had a renewed interest in serving in the military and enlisted in the Air Force National Guard where he served as a communication specialist and retired as a Master Sergeant in 1998. As farming became harder to make a living in the early 1980s, Roy had an opportunity to take a job at the Marine Corps Logistics Base in Albany GA where he worked for 25 years and retired in 2012. After retiring, Roy enjoyed traveling with his beloved wife of 56 years, Erma Jean. He loved to go fishing in the Little River pursuing his favorite fish the Red Breast Bream. After losing his beloved Erma Jean in 2016, Roy spent most of his time visiting his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren where he was affectionately known as G-Daddy.
Roy is survived by three sons: Brent Sumner (Teresa) of Warner Robins, Kevin Sumner (Suzanne) of Moultrie, Ricky Sumner (Kelly) of Adel; six Grandchildren: Bryan Sumner, Will Sumner, Ty Sumner (Sara), Kylee Raulerson (Tyler), Hart Sumner (Cara), Hayes Sumner; eight Great Grandchildren: Zoe Sumner, Noa Sumner, Kaden Raulerson, Thompson Sumner, Hadlee Raulerson, Truett Sumner, Wes Raulerson, and Olivia Sumner. He was preceded in death by his parents, beloved wife of 56 years, Erma Jean Lasseter Sumner,
and a granddaughter, Audrey Lynn Sumner.
A visitation will be held from1:00 to 3:00 PM on Wednesday, April 22, 2026 at Boone Funeral Home (1804 S. Hutchinson Ave. in Adel). A graveside service with military honors will take place at 3:30 PM on Wednesday, April 22, 2026 at the Woodlawn Cemetery Annex with Rev. Joey Taylor officiating. Interment will follow the service.

Mrs. Joann Crews Storey, age 78, of Adel, Georgia, passed away on April 16, 2026 at her home following a long illness. She is the daughter of the late Ethel Gibbs Crews. Mrs. Storey was born on March 21, 1948 in Cook County where she lived most of her life. She enjoyed work and spending time working in the yard. Mrs. Storey worked for several business through her life but served as a waitress and manager Huddle House. She loved her family dearly and adored her animals especially her little dog, Pretzel.
Mrs. Storey is survived by her two sons and daughter-in-law: Timothy Storey of Adel, Kevin and Marygean Storey of Sullivan, Maine; four grandchildren and three great grandchildren. In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her husband, Farrell Storey; a daughter, Tammy Storey; and her brother, James Crews.

Mr. Paul Worley, age 52, of Sparks, Georgia passed away at his home on April 14, 2026. He was born in Decatur, Georgia on January 8, 1974 and has lived in Cook County for the past eight years. Mr. Worley was a retired diesel mechanic and a member of Jones Memorial United Methodist Church in Morrow, Georgia.

Mr. Worley is survived by his parents, Eric and Rachel McNeal Worley of Griffin, Georgia; three daughters: Kassidy Worley of Newnan, Georgia, and Suzannah Worley and Ayden Worley, both of Marietta, Georgia; three grandsons; paternal grandmother, Louise Worley of Griffin; and a sister, Kristen Worley of Griffin.

A memorial service for Mr. Worley will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2026 at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of Boone Funeral Home (1804 S. Hutchinson Ave.; Adel, Georgia) with Rev. Nathaniel Long officiating. Steve Jones will sing "Go Rest High on That Mountain"; recordings of "All My Hope (Is in Jesus)", "Scars in Heaven" and "Rhiannon" will be played at the service. In lieu of flowers it is requested that tributes be made in memory of Mr. Worley to the American Heart Association (mail-in donation forms as well as electronic options are available at www.heart.org).

Mrs. Sylvia Williams Van Brackle, 82, of Lenox, Georgia passed away on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at Tift Regional Medical Center in Tifton, Georgia. She was born on June 27, 1943 to the late Everett "Pat" Williams and the late Evelyn Merritt Williams and raised in Haralson County, Georgia.
After graduating from Buchanan High School, Mrs. Van Brackle worked in bookkeeping in Atlanta (1961-1970) and Bremen, Georgia from 1970 to 1978. She moved to Cook County in 1978 where she worked for Hancock Peanut Company, John Williams Company and then with the Adel Memorial Hospital until her retirement.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Dennis Van Brackle of Lenox, Georgia; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Connie Van Brackle of Leesburg, Georgia; a daughter and son-in-law, Kimberly and Greg Henderson of Adel, Georgia; five grandchildren: Charlie and Sarah Van Brackle of Holly Springs, North Carolina; Will Van Brackle of Macon, Georgia; Gracie Van Brackle of Athens, Georgia; Sarah Henderson of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Anna Henderson of Adel; and two sisters and a brother-in-law: Patsy Williams Van Horn and John Van Horn of Port Orange, Florida, and Frankie Williams Brown of Bremen, Georgia. In addition of her parents, Mrs. Van Brackle was preceded in death by her brother, Rodger Williams, of Bremen, Georgia. Mrs. Van Brackle was laid to rest in a simple, private burial at the Crossroads Church Cemetery in accordance with her wishes.
