There’s something about this time of year that reminds me how powerful healing can be when we step outside… literally. 🌿

As the days get longer and everything begins to bloom again, I often encourage my clients to reconnect with nature—not as an escape, but as a tool in their recovery. Because healing doesn’t only happen in therapy rooms… it happens in sunlight, in movement, in quiet moments of presence.

Spending time outdoors can help calm the nervous system, reduce stress, and create space to breathe again—something that’s so important when you’re working through anxiety, trauma, or addiction. Even something as simple as a walk, sitting in the sun, or noticing the change of seasons can shift your mindset and support emotional balance.

I like to remind people: recovery isn’t about perfection—it’s about small, consistent steps forward. And nature has a beautiful way of reflecting that. Growth doesn’t happen overnight… but it does happen. 🌱

I’ve spent years sitting across from people who are struggling—and one thing I see over and over again is this: dishonesty isn’t just something that affects relationships… it quietly impacts our mental health, too.

We often think of lying as something external—something we do to others. But the truth is, when dishonesty becomes a pattern, it creates an internal conflict that the brain and body have to carry. Over time, that can show up as anxiety, emotional dysregulation, or even depression.

There’s also something happening neurologically. The more we engage in deception, the more the brain adapts—essentially lowering its emotional response to dishonesty. And that’s where things can escalate without us even realizing it.

But what concerns me most is the impact on connection. Trust is the foundation of healing—whether it’s in relationships or in therapy. When honesty breaks down, so does the ability to truly be seen, understood, and supported.

Healing starts with awareness. Not perfection—just honesty. Even when it’s uncomfortable.

When someone experiences psychosis, the most visible symptoms—like hallucinations or paranoia—often get the most attention.

But what many people don’t realize is that even after those symptoms improve, the brain can still feel… off.

Difficulty focusing.
Memory lapses.
Slower thinking.

These cognitive challenges are real—and they can make everyday life feel overwhelming.

That’s why I’m passionate about cognitive remediation.

I often describe it as “mental physical therapy.” Just as we rebuild strength in the body, we can also rebuild the brain’s ability to process, remember, and problem-solve.

A recent New York Times editorial — reflecting on more than a decade of cannabis policy — acknowledges that widespread legalization without sufficient regulation has led to a surge in daily use and associated health concerns, including rises in addiction and mental health problems.

While The Times stopped short of calling for a return to prohibition, it emphasized the need for stronger regulation, better public education, monitoring of high-THC products, and more clinician awareness — points that align with what we’re seeing in practice.
