The mission of HOPE Connection is to help people whose lives have been touched by the death of a loved one - by providing individual and group support, educational programs and information that helps alleviate the pain of grief and promote healing.

Recently we have seen the passings of Hayden Panettiere, Dolly Parton, and Tim Curry and with each news break we also saw people from all over the world talk about their grief. We understand that grieving the loss of a public figure is very different than grieving the loss of a close family member, but we can look at the way people are reaching out to each other to share stories, enjoy their art, and organize fund raisers and apply it to our own grief. Grieving in community can help combat feelings of isolation by fostering connection. Share stories of your loved one with friends, look through photos and videos together, even consider donating your time or funds to causes they cared about.

National Grief Awareness Day falls on August 30th. And while grievers know that we’re definitely aware of our grief every day of the year, Grief Awareness Day allows us to have a day to intentionally sit with our grief either individually or as a community. This can be a day you choose to create a memorial for your loved one or a day you spend time with your loved ones to talk about the grief you share. “What happened?” is a question that is often asked when we learn of someone’s passing. And it’s human nature to be curious especially if the death seems sudden. But this question can be quite loaded for the family and loved ones of the person who has died. Even in a “straightforward” death, recounting the details can be painful and triggering for those who were close to the deceased.
