Airway is at the heart of all we do! The cornerstone of myofunctional therapy is establishing optimal rest posture (tongue to spot!) and nasal breathing habits. Evaluation of the whole child is essential in providing comprehensive care! Thanks to The Breathe Institute for sharing this info!

Pediatric sleep-disordered breathing (SDB) is a general term used for any interruption in breathing while sleeping.

Awareness is key. The most obvious symptom of sleep disordered breathing is loud snoring. Snoring is not a normal behavior. Healthy nighttime sleep breathing consists of quiet nasal breathing with the lips closed and the tongue resting all the way up at the roof of the mouth.

The first and third pictures were only taken 3 months apart. The before and after represent life changing results this child experienced after originally being referred by his pediatric dentist. Dramatic improvement in an older child like this rarely comes from a tongue tie release alone. Our patient was seen by his orthodontist and speech/myofunctional therapist BEFORE a lingual frenectomy was completed. You can see the difference in veinous pooling under his eyes. Mom reports he is sleeping better and has improved attention in school. Shout out to Iron Horse Pediatric Dentistry, Majeroni Orthodontics, and Alison from Strides In Speech for this amazing outcome!
