The "flu" season is hitting us hard right now. We are seeing a ton of positive influenza A tests. Unfortunately the strain going through the community does not seem to be covered by this years flu vaccine. However there are usually several strains that "pass through" a community each winter so even though the current one doesn't seem covered. There likely will be other strains that are, so flu vaccine is still a good idea, especially for high risk people (elderly, immune compromised, pregnant women, asthma, small children, etc.)
Things to do to help prevent this: get good quality sleep, hand washing (especially when you get home from being out), limit contact with sick people (if possible).
If you do get sick with a high fever, body aches, headache, cough, etc, drink plenty of fluids and get seen, there are medications that can reduce the length and severity of influenza. Also if a family member gets diagnosed with the flu, household members (especially high risk people) can be prophylaxed with medication to minimze the chance of getting sick.
