Dance with Pride. 🌈

This Pride Month, the American Dance Therapy Association celebrates and honors our LGBTQIA+ members, colleagues, clients, and community. We recognize the power of authentic expression, embodied identity, and movement as pathways toward healing, connection, visibility, and joy.

Dance/movement therapy creates space for every body, every story, and every voice to be seen, valued, and celebrated.

Together, we move toward a more inclusive, compassionate, and affirming future.

Happy Pride Month from the ADTA! 🏳️‍🌈💃🕺🏳️‍⚧️

Continuing Education Webinar: Q***r-Friendly vs. Q***r-Informed--How to Make Your Private Practice LGBTQ+ Affirming

How does one identify as being “q***r-informed”? It is not enough to know the terms, watch q***r shows, or know a q***r person. Q***r people’s bodies are being policed, oppressed, discriminated against, violated and killed. It is time to embody their validity and visibility. People are seeking out therapists whom they feel safe with, don’t have to explain or validate their existence to, and can help them understand their personal, embodied experiences. Dance/movement therapists are in the unique position with an understanding of embodiment and are primed to be able to sit with folks. How do we extract ourselves from the lens of heteronormativity and cisgender biases?

The reviewers of this book are dance/movement therapy (DMT) educators who center on multicultural awareness, intersectionality, and their role in their clinical and educational experiences. They intend to parallel the framework put forth by editors Dieterich-Hartwell and Melsom (2022) by first identifying themselves. Their combined clinical experiences have helped them to approach this book with a deep understanding of how dance/movement therapists work with populations who have experienced trauma.
