Krystyna W. Malczewski

Krystyna “Krysia” Malczewski, 75, passed away peacefully on June 1, 2026 after a brief illness. Born on April 23, 1951, in Taras, Poland, she was the daughter of the late Janina (Kulawiak) Synowiec and Franciszek Kulawiak.

Krystyna immigrated to the US with her husband and daughter in the 1980s, making Albany her home. Hard-working and resilient, she worked for SUNY Albany for many years while providing a home with warmth and care for her three daughters who were her greatest pride and joy. Krysia enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, listening to music, taking walks and being in nature. She was kind and generous and her home was open to everyone. She was an excellent cook. Friends and family enjoyed her homemade meals, hospitality and company. She loved animals, sometimes more than people. After retirement, she took care of the neighborhood stray cats, birds and other critters that needed a refuge, often feeding them a variety of cookies. She was full of life and often described as spunky and a spitfire, ready with a joke and prone to breaking into a song.

She is lovingly remembered by her siblings Tadeusz (Christina) Kulawiak and Halina Adamczak, her daughters Joanna Kaufman (Brian), Maja Tusch (Jason), Olivia Malczewski, her grandchildren Adam and Grace, cousins, several nieces and great nieces.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, June 5, 2026, from 4 pm - 6 pm at Cannon Funeral Home, 2020 Central Ave, Albany, NY. All are welcome to attend and honor her memory.

Charles E. O'Brien

Albany - Charles Edward O’Brien, 79, of Albany, passed away peacefully on May 27, 2026, at St. Peter’s Hospital, in the company of his children.

Born on October 10, 1946, in Rochester, NY, he was the son of the late Thomas and Marabelle (McKenna) O’Brien. Chuck was predeceased by the love of his life, Kathleen “Kate” (Killian) O’Brien, his wife of 48 years.

He grew up in Caledonia, NY, alongside his brother, Patrick, graduating as valedictorian from Caledonia-Mumford High School. Chuck went on to attend Hamilton College and later earned his JD from Albany Law School. Between the two, he served in the United States Navy, with notable stations in Washington, D.C., and London, where he enjoyed his first-ever pint of Guinness.

During his first year at law school, he met Kate, who that night boldly predicted they would marry, which happened the following year. Together, they built their life and grew their family, welcoming three children. Their home was warm and inviting, and the back door was always open.

Chuck took pride in serving others, logging several years as coach, board member, and president of National Little League, in addition to decades dedicated to law as a practicing attorney. He was a communicant of St. Teresa of Avila parish, and a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians.

He had a penchant for newspaper clippings and handwritten notes, and was usually surrounded by stacks of books. He had a passion for the music, history, and culture of Ireland. A practical man of few words, he let his actions speak for him. Chuck was Kate’s unwavering caregiver for a dozen years, true to their vows, “in sickness and in health.”

Chuck is survived by his children, Owen O’Brien, Mary (Christopher) Stehr, and Kevin (Elizabeth) O’Brien. He is the beloved grandfather of Connor and Nolan Stehr, and Marcus O’Brien. He is also survived by many cherished in-laws, nieces, nephews, and cousins, especially the Pullyblanks.

The family extends its gratitude to Chuck’s many caregivers and providers.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, May 30, at 10:30 a.m., at St. Vincent de Paul, 900 Madison Ave., Albany. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the church prior to the Mass. Private interment will follow at Our Lady of Angels Cemetery.

Their courage, dedication, and selflessness will never be forgotten. Because of them, we are given the gift of freedom—something we hold close not only today, but every day.

As we gather with loved ones this Memorial Day, may we take a moment to reflect, to remember the lives lost, and to express our deepest gratitude to those who gave everything.

We remember. We honor. We are forever grateful.

Dr. John R. Ouimet

Cohoes - Dr. John Richard Ouimet, 89, of Cohoes entered into eternal life with Christ our Lord on January 28, 2026 after a short illness at Samaritan hospital. Born in Troy, NY to the late John Edward Ouimet from Montreal, Canada and the late Patricia (Hetko) Ouimet from Austria, he grew up in Watervliet and graduated from Watervliet High School.

John went on to Syracuse University, where he was a debate coach and helped students, especially foreign students, shine in public speaking. He received his Master’s Degree from SUNY Albany in Reading. Later in life he received his Doctorate from an online College in Montreal. John met the love of his life, Ruth Marie Austin who became his wife for 62 years. He taught English at Shaker Jr High School, and became a reading specialist at Shaker High where he helped shape the lives of many students struggling in academics with his humorous, unorthodox and yet very effective methods. There he met Joseph Auerema, the school Speech Pathologist and they started their own business, the Speech and Reading Improvement Center. They provided speech language to area hospital and nursing homes, as well as provided evaluation and therapy for the reading disabled. John was hardworking and a strong advocate for students struggling to reach their potential.

He loved roller-skating, amateur boxing in high-school, bike riding, playing his guitar and traveling with his beloved family. He worked two jobs to provide and give the best to his family.

John is survived by his only daughter Lisa LoGiudice and her loving husband Joseph, who was like a son to him and helped care for him in the nights, many cousins and his dearest life-long friend of 75 years from high-school; Ben Mirling of Saratoga Springs, his God son; Gary Mirling as well as his considered friends from Mexico, Central America, South America and Peru who always prayed for him and his wife.

We want to thank Samaritan hospital nurses, doctors and caregivers for all of the great care and love they showed us, as well as St Peter’s Urology in Troy, and his long-time doctor Everett Forman.

Love and loss are forever intertwined. One cannot exist without the other; the grief we feel is a reflection of the love we’ve shared.

Even in loss, that love remains—shaping us, guiding us, and reminding us of what truly matters.

Tyler B. Collins

COLONIE – Tyler B. Collins, 25, died unexpectedly on Friday, May 15, 2026. He was welcomed into heaven by his Mamay and Papa (Lorie and George LaTourette) whom he cherished.

Tyler leaves behind his mother Dona Herr, stepfather Dan Herr; brother Kaedan, sister Karlee, cousin and best friend Dylan, Aunt Dawn and other extended family, coworkers, and many friends who loved him deeply.

Tyler worked as an EMT for Mohawk Ambulance, Malta Stillwater EMS and Nassau Ambulance. At age 18, Tyler started working at Albany Medical Center Hospital in patient transport which sparked the flame for his love of helping and serving others. He then took a job as an ER tech during the pandemic before moving on to become an EMT. Tyler spent his entire working career helping, serving, saving and giving back to others. This speaks volumes about his character and who he was a person. As good as he was at those things, he was an even better friend, brother and especially son. There are no words that could properly express how this profound loss has impacted his family and friends. Tyler will be as deeply missed as he was deeply loved.

Memorial services will be announced in the near future.
