If you are a school administrator or special education director, this resource is worth your time. A study published by CADRE titled "I Didn't Sign Up For This" takes a close look at the very real impact that due process hearings have on special education teachers. The findings are eye opening. Nearly all of the teachers surveyed reported significant negative effects on their stress and mental health, 83% missed instructional time with their students, and 43% said the experience made them less likely to remain in the field of special education. Special education mediation is a process designed to help families and school districts in New York State resolve disputes in a way that is constructive, respectful, and focused on the student. Here are four things everyone should know about us:

1. Mediation is free, there is never a cost to participate
2. Mediation is voluntary, both parties choose to be at the table
3. Mediation is confidential, what is said in the room stays in the room
4. Mediation can be requested at any time, even if a hearing request or state complaint has already been filed
