Becoming a small business owner has required me to get out of my comfort zone…a lot. Some days, that looks like getting in front of the camera to post a Reel, talking about money, or pretending I understand SEO.
Today’s uncomfortable assignment: asking for Google reviews 📝

As awkward as it feels to ask, reviews genuinely make a difference for a small practice like Heirloom. They help likeminded patients searching for personal, thoughtful primary care find me and feel confident to try something different. (Reviews matter so much that I’ve actually made it a habit to leave them for other small businesses whenever I can!)

If you’re a current Heirloom patient, I’ve cared for you in the past, or we’ve worked together professionally, a Google review would be an incredibly meaningful birthday gift: tinyurl.com/drmegreview 💛

I’m cheers-ing to this new year ahead with immense pride, gratitude, and excitement for what’s ahead (oh, and a bottle of Tums by my side ❤️‍🔥)

*This* is healthcare in our insurance-based system. Where “covered” doesn’t mean paid for, “in-network” dictates who you can see and where, and “your doctor recommends it” doesn’t mean your insurance company algorithm (which is structured to control costs rather than provide answers and information) will agree.

The longer I practice medicine, the more absurd it feels that we’ve somehow tried make health insurance synonymous with healthcare.
Health insurance is important. But health insurance is not healthcare.
We don’t expect our car insurance to pay for routine oil changes or tire rotations. So why have we confused health insurance for healthcare? 🤔

As a family doc, I spend an embarrassing amount of time helping patients navigate our broken healthcare system. And I’m happy and proud to do it! But honestly after battling it out with insurance companies day after day, three chickens is starting to sound like a pretty good deal. 🐓🐓🐓

Most of us don’t need another lecture on what we should be doing. We need the support, accountability, and encouragement that make those healthier choices feel more doable in the busyness of everyday life.

At Heirloom, I’m proud that the way we care extends beyond the exam room.
As a P*P, I love helping individuals and families in Albany, New York feel better and live well, not just treating them once they’re already sick.

A huge thank you to Coach Katie Coach Katie for welcoming us, challenging us, encouraging us, and hosting our second Movement is Medicine event this weekend! 💪🔦😉🧡

When I was a med student in the trenches of weekend-long study sessions in Albany Med’s windowless library, I thought about my future patients a lot.

I also thought about the kind of doctor I would want guiding my own family through the best and hardest moments of their lives, especially my grandmother (or one of the LOLs - as my co-resident and I very affectionately called some of our favorite patients: Little Old Ladies).

Years later when I was dreaming up Heirloom, I held that same standard in my heart and mind. I wanted to create a practice where patients feel known, their concerns are taken seriously, and they can even feel excited to come to partner together to work toward better health.

The kind of care I would want for my own grandmother is the kind of care I strive to provide my patients every day. And it is a privilege and a joy.

What’s something you would look for in a doctor caring for someone you love? ❤️

Apparently, the 518 likes good primary care.

Heirloom has grown faster than last year’s version of me could have imagined, and for that, I’m incredibly grateful.

To protect what makes Heirloom, Heirloom (Time to listen! Continuity! Thoughtful care! A doctor who knows you and your family!) in this next chapter, we’ll be making a small but important change effective immediately:

‼️ New Heirloom members will now be welcomed by waitlist.‼️

If Heirloom’s been on your mind, you can join the waitlist at tinyurl.com/heirloomwaitlist or tap the link in my bio.
When a membership becomes available, I’ll be in touch.

And to the patients and families who have trusted me with your care, recommended me to your family and friends, engaged with my posts, and helped this little practice that could become what it is today:

THANK YOU ❤️

Apparently, the 518 really does like good primary care. 🥹
