This weekend marked my final in-person weekend of Balanced Body Mat training!
Balanced Body is one of the most respected names in Pilates education worldwide, known for blending classical Pilates principles with modern movement science, anatomy, biomechanics, and functional movement.
As a Yoga Medicine Therapeutic Specialist, this approach feels incredibly aligned with the way I already teach and view movement. My background has always centered around understanding the body through a science-informed lens: focusing on function, biomechanics, nervous system regulation, mobility, strength, and sustainable movement patterns.
What I loved about this training is that it hasn’t felt like stepping into something completely separate from yoga. Instead, it feels like blending together many of the principles I already teach while adding the foundational repertoire and structure of classical Pilates. Different methods, shared intention: helping people move better, feel better, and understand their bodies more deeply.
Lately, I’ve seen so much division online…classical vs. contemporary Pilates, yoga vs. Pilates, one method versus another. As someone newer to the Pilates world but who has taught yoga since 2015, I can say this honestly: division in wellness spaces isn’t new, and it’s always a little disheartening to see.
My intention with sharing this journey is never to create separation or imply that one path is “better.” I truly believe there is room for all of us and many different ways to help people reconnect to their bodies and their health. There are so many people in this world needing movement, healing, strength, nervous system support, health, and wholeness. We do not need less collaboration, we need more.
Forever grateful to keep learning, evolving, and growing so I can better serve this community.
Forever a student.
Always learning + evolving.
