LifeSouth will be giving each donor a t-shirt while supplies last! Platelet and double red cell donors will receive a $40 e-gift card! All donors will also receive a $10 Chick-fil-A from Marshall Medical Centers and be entered for a chance to win a iPad!

If you have been positively impacted by a nurse at our facility in the past year, we encourage you to submit a DAISY nomination! Within the next few months, we will begin reviewing nominations, so please let us know if you would like to honor a nurse who cared for you or a family member this past year.
The DAISY (Diseases Attacking the Immune System) Award is an international recognition program that honors and celebrates the skillful, compassionate care nurses provide every day. The DAISY Foundation was established by the family of J. Patrick Barnes after he died from complications of the auto-immune disease ITP in 1999. During his hospitalization, they deeply appreciated the care and compassion shown to Patrick and his entire family. When he died, they felt compelled to say “thank you” to nurses in a very public way.
Expressions of gratitude from patients and families go a long way in helping nurses remember why they became a nurse in the first place and, more importantly, remind them of the joy and reward of a job well done in providing quality healthcare. On Friday, we proudly celebrated the installation of our new Varian TruBeam Linear Accelerator along with enhancements to our chemotherapy treatment area. Board members of the Marshall County Health Care Authority and The Foundation for Marshall Medical Centers along with local dignitaries, donors and community supporters toured the facility and saw firsthand how recent investments are helping advance cancer care close to home.

The new TruBeam Linear Accelerator represents a major advancement in radiation therapy, offering highly precise treatment with greater accuracy and shorter treatment times. This state-of-the-art technology allows clinicians to better target tumors while minimizing exposure to surrounding healthy tissue. Helping provide more effective and comfortable care for our patients.

Also showcased were the new patient and caregiver chairs made possible through the generosity of donors who believe in providing comfort, dignity, and support during cancer treatment. This meaningful project began in memory of Tom Parsley, whose family launched an effort to help ensure every patient and caregiver feels cared for during their time at the Cancer Center. Their vision inspired The Foundation for Marshall Medical Centers’ 2025 Giving Tuesday campaign and was strengthened through the support of many generous community partners, including proceeds from the annual Winter Ball.

Marshall Medical Centers is deeply grateful to every donor, supporter and community partner who helped make these important additions possible. Together, we continue investing in compassionate, advanced cancer care for the patients and families we are honored to serve.

A haircut is more than just a trim for Tammie Bynum, oncology nurse at the Marshall Cancer Care Center. Bynum grows her hair for two years before getting it snipped off and transformed into a wig for a sick child. She started sharing her tresses 15 years ago after watching patients deal with hair loss.
“I saw what patients were going through and I had something that could help,” she recalls. “It’s the least I can do.”
The Fyffe resident says when her dark hair turned gray she wasn’t sure anyone would want it, but the website for Wigs for Kids makes it clear that ‘Gray is okay.’
Bynum knew as a child growing up in Cullman that she wanted to be a nurse. She got married and had her son and daughter before beginning nursing school. She graduated in 1995 and worked as a dialysis nurse for 10 years before moving into oncology to care for cancer patients in 2006. She never looked back.
“God absolutely planted me here,” she says.
Bynum’s daughter had the honor of cutting her mom’s long hair for the first two donations, which are required to be at least 12 inches long in order to make a wig. She had worn her hair long for a while but getting it cut and styled sometimes was an issue. She decided instead to let it grow long and straight in order to help those dealing with the heartbreak of losing their hair.
“My hope was to inspire others to do this,” she says.
Wigs for Kids is a nonprofit organization that has been serving children experiencing medical hair loss since 1981. According to its website, Wigs For Kids brings together stylists and hair donors who want to help children experiencing hair loss from cancer or any other medical cause of hair loss.

Meet Leslie Peppers 🎹

Leslie has played the piano since her school days, but like many seasons in life, music was set aside while she focused on raising her family. About five years ago, she returned to the piano—and hasn’t looked back. Since then, she has immersed herself in music, practicing every day and often for hours at a time.

For Leslie, the piano is more than an instrument; it’s a way to bring comfort, calm, and connection. She is married to her husband, Jon Peppers, and together they have four grown children and two grandsons who are the lights of their lives.

Today, Leslie is honored to share her love of music with patients, families, and staff, hoping her playing brings a moment of peace and encouragement to all who hear it.

Blake plays a key role in ensuring every patient’s treatment plan is safe, effective, and tailored to their individual needs. From reviewing complex chemotherapy medications to counseling patients and helping them navigate financial assistance, Blake brings an extra layer of compassion and precision to every step of the cancer journey.

Today, the Marshall Cancer Care Center celebrated our second annual DAISY Award recipient – Erin Molock.

Erin’s nomination came from a patient who praised Erin’s presence, compassion and confidence throughout her cancer journey, “What could have been a traumatic experience became something I could fact – because of her.” The patient went on to say, “She doesn’t just provide care; she delivers comfort encouragement and hope – Erin has a way of making patients feel like family.”

The DAISY Award is a prestigious international honor that recognizes the outstanding dedication, compassion, and extraordinary care nurses provide.
