3 child hot car deaths have been reported in the US in the last week. Look before you lock. Keep parked cars locked to prevent playing children from entering and becoming trapped.

It's official! We have completed our school supply backpack program for the 2026-27 school year. This was our biggest year yet. We fulfilled the school supplies for 215 students! We provided a value of $5,979.95 in school supplies for local children! Let that settle in... With the bulk-buy savings we're able to leverage, the loaves and fishes community donations, support from the local ministerial association and their Salvation Army funding and the completely integral grant funding from the Albia Industrial Development Corporation we have made a huge impact in our community. Thank you for being on this community journey with us. There is no better place to live and work in the world than right here in rural Iowa. We are blessed. Blessed to see the joy and relief on families' faces, the excitement of children choosing their backpacks and getting the supplies they need for the coming school year and beyond blessed to have a community that sees the same value in this program that we do here at public health.

We’re working with the Food Bank of Iowa to get a Mobile Food Pantry to Monroe County. They will be parking their mobile unit at our office next month. I have attached the flyer. They do not require any financial or residential proof from individuals and families. They will be asking # of residents in the home and ages for food allocation. This does not affect participation at Helping Hands, Lincoln Center’s food pantry or SCICAP’s emergency food pantry. This is a completely separate distribution to help individuals and families in rural Iowa.

Hope this is helpful. Feel free to pass it along!

There are still a little over 40 kids' school supply bags that haven't been picked up yet. If you registered and haven't picked up your kiddos' supplies, make sure to get out to Public Health to pick them up. Next week we will be packing up the event supplies and distributing some to the school.
