If you take a generic version of Zyrtec, check the source of your medication. Unique Pharmaceutical Laboratories is voluntarily recalling four lots of cetirizine hydrochloride tablets USP 5 mg in response to possible cross-contamination with Ranitidine, a heartburn medication. The contaminated tablets are discolored, with some featuring an unusual red dot.
According to the FDA's report, possible symptoms of exposure for people sensitive to Ranitidine include hypotension, shortness of breath, difficulty swallowing, swelling in throat and facial regions, itching, rashes, and loss of consciousness.
If you have any questions or concerns about this recall, you can reach out to the distributor, Rising Pharma Holdings Inc. (2 Tower Center Blvd., Suite 1401A, East Brunswick, NJ 08816), at their phone number 1-844-874-7464 or by email at [email protected] or [email protected].

Sniffling and sneezing his way through an entire Kleenex box, brilliant Burqueño Walter Blanco announced earlier today that ceasing to take his medication correlated to a sharp increase in allergy symptoms.

"I mean, it doesn't make any sense! I was totally fine, no allergies at all, so I figured there was no point in keeping up with my Allegra," Blanco wheezes out. "Now I can't stop sneezing, my eyes are watering like crazy, and my ears itch! Who's ever heard of itchy ears?"

At press time, Blanco is reportedly claiming his uptick in allergies is related to "whatever weather is happening right now. Sun, rain, who even knows." He maintains that he has not experienced any effects of not taking Allegra.

On a more serious note, we at the Allergy and Asthma Center recognize that taking daily medications for allergies can be a difficult lifetime commitment. If you are experiencing allergy or asthma symptoms negatively impacting your quality of life, we recommend seeing a specialist about starting your allergy shot journey.

Allergy shots drastically decrease your allergy symptoms, allowing you to live an allergy-free life without a daily pill.

It's true: Benadryl (diphenhydramine) usage correlates to an increased risk of dementia and cognitive decline.

What steps should be taken to address allergies instead?

One option is non-anticholinergic allergy medications, including Allegra, Zyrtec, and Claritin. However, these medications are a short-term treatment, relieving symptoms without treating the root cause.

For a longer-term, more comprehensive treatment, allergy shots are the way to go. At the Allergy and Asthma Center, we offer scratch tests and an allergy shot clinic to get you on your way to a happier, allergy-free life.
