June is Elder Abuse Awareness Month! This month, we join communities across New Mexico and the nation in raising awareness about elder abuse, neglect, and exploitation. World Elder Abuse Awareness Day is observed each year on June 15, reminding us that every older adult deserves to live with dignity, respect, and safety. Elder abuse can take many forms, including physical, emotional, and financial abuse, as well as neglect, and often goes unnoticed or unreported.

NMHCA/NMCAL extends our sincere appreciation to the New Mexico Aging & Long-Term Services Department (ALTSD) for their ongoing commitment to protecting and supporting older adults throughout our state. Through advocacy, education, Adult Protective Services, caregiver support, and community resources, they help ensure New Mexico’s seniors have access to the services and protections they deserve. We encourage our members, partners, caregivers, and communities to stay informed and learn more about the programs, resources, and initiatives making a difference for older New Mexicans.
