Today, we celebrate an extraordinary leader whose career has been defined by compassion, advocacy, and unwavering service. On behalf of the NMHCA/NMCAL, we extend our heartfelt congratulations to Patsy Romero on her well-earned retirement. For decades, Patsy has been a tireless champion for New Mexico's most vulnerable individuals, dedicating her career to improving the lives of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, behavioral health needs, and those who rely on long-term care services. Since becoming President and CEO of Santa Maria El Mirador in 2016, and throughout her many leadership roles before that, she has led with integrity, vision, and an unwavering commitment to quality care.

As ICF/IID Task Force Chair, Patsy has been a respected voice within NMHCA/NMCAL, helping shape policy, advocate for providers, and strengthen services for individuals across our state. Her leadership, wisdom, and willingness to stand up for those who often cannot advocate for themselves have left a lasting impact on our association, our profession, and countless lives.

One of the many reasons Patsy has inspired so many is the heart behind her work. As she so beautifully shared: β€œI consider advocating and fighting for those most vulnerable and for those who work on behalf of the most vulnerable a rewarding opportunity. An opportunity that I hope will make a difference and impact a life in a positive way. I am privileged that working for SMEM continues to provide me with this opportunity.”

Thank you, Patsy, for your remarkable leadership, your unwavering commitment to those you have served, and the countless lives you have impacted throughout your career. Your influence will continue to be felt for years to come, and our profession is stronger because of you. We wish you a retirement filled with joy, good health, new adventures, and precious time with family and friends. Congratulations on an incredible career and thank you for leaving such a meaningful legacy.

Please join us in congratulating Patsy Romero on her retirement and thanking her for a lifetime of dedicated service to New Mexico's long-term care community.
