📘✨ Pre-orders are officially open!

Inside Grief: Understanding the Brain After Loss launches October 15, 2026 by our very own GNA-NM Chair Genna Reeves. From Genna: I created this workbook because understanding why grief affects the brain and body the way it does can change the way we experience it. Concentration, memory, yearning, disrupted routines, and even the feeling that the person who died should somehow still be here can be deeply confusing. Inside Grief brings the science of grief into everyday language—and then gives you somewhere to go with it through six self-guided sections, 42 reflective activities, accessible grief education, guided reflection, and practical exercises.

This project grew out of years of grief education, group facilitation, and conversations with grieving people, along with my belief that science can be offered with warmth rather than distance. It’s for people grieving a death, as well as grief educators, peer support providers, counselors, facilitators, caregivers, and other helping professionals. Sometimes understanding what is happening inside us doesn’t make grief smaller—but it can make it feel a little less bewildering.

*CEUs AVAILABLE* I’m excited to share an upcoming Care Conversations Series continuing education event for grief professionals hosted by Grief Networking Alliance of New Mexico in partnership with Invictus by Genna: Grief & Loss Services. This is a course for behavioral health providers, and other helping professionals who want to better understand what grief is doing in the brain and body—and how to explain that science in ways that actually help the people we support.

From Science to Support: Helping Clients Understand Grief in the Brain and the Body

November 19, 2026

10:00 AM–12:15 PM Mountain

Live on Zoom, Presentation-Style Course

Grief can affect attention, memory, sleep, stress, identity, connection, and even our basic expectations about how the world is supposed to work. In this interactive course, we’ll explore contemporary grief research and practice translating it into accessible, compassionate psychoeducation without pathologizing normal grief.

Anyone from anywhere can join.

I’m pleased to introduce The Compassionate Compass Grief Support Community, a new grief-support initiative serving New Mexico and virtual communities.

The Compassionate Compass was created to offer welcoming, community-centered spaces where people navigating grief, life after loss, and major life transitions can connect, learn, reflect, and find support in ways that fit their individual needs.

Through support groups, grief education and trainings, workshops and book clubs, community gatherings, and grief resources, the goal is to help people find their bearings in grief without prescribing a single path through it. I also offer 1:1 grief peer support sessions.

I’m looking forward to growing this community, developing new programs, and continuing to collaborate with fellow grief-support professionals and organizations throughout New Mexico.

Our first group is launching in person on September 2 in the East Mountains. This will be followed by program development in Albuquerque by the start of October with general support groups, workshops, a loss of child group, loss of spouse group, and sudden and traumatic loss group to start. We will also offer virtual groups.
