💙 WATCH THEIR HEARTS 💙

A bluish color around your baby’s lips, face, tongue, or fingertips can be a sign that their body is not getting enough oxygen. On babies with darker skin tones, this warning sign may appear gray, purple, or ashen instead of blue.

🚨 This requires immediate medical attention.

If you notice these signs:
✔️ Call your baby’s doctor immediately
✔️ Seek emergency medical care or go to the nearest ER
✔️ Trust your instincts—if something doesn’t seem right, get your baby evaluated right away

Bluish, gray, or purple discoloration can be a warning sign of a congenital heart defect (CHD) or another serious medical condition that affects oxygen levels in the body.

The American Academy of Pediatrics notes that gray, pale, or bluish-colored lips or nail beds can be caused by decreased oxygen in the bloodstream and should be evaluated promptly.

❤️ Leading with Purpose and Heart ❤️

We are proud to share Hole In The Heart's 2025 Annual Report: Leading with Purpose and Heart.

Through education, advocacy, and partnership, we are building a future where no heart is overlooked and no family walks this journey alone.

This year reflects the incredible progress we've made for New Mexico families affected by congenital heart defects (CHD), while also expanding programs and resources that can be used by families, healthcare providers, and advocates across the United States and around the world.

At Hole In The Heart, we see CHD as more than a New Mexico issue—we recognize the global impact of congenital heart defects and remain committed to creating meaningful change through awareness, education, timely detection, and improved access to care.

We are honored to stand alongside families, providers, advocates, and partners who share this mission. Together, we are changing the landscape of CHD awareness and care—one heart at a time. ❤️

Poor weight gain or failure to thrive can sometimes be a sign of an undiagnosed congenital heart defect (CHD). Babies with CHD may have trouble feeding, get tired while eating, or not gain weight as expected.

If your baby is feeding poorly or you are worried about their growth, contact your baby’s doctor right away. Trust your instincts.
