Founded in 1982, the Albuquerque Karma Thegsum Chöling (KTC) is an affiliate center of Karma Triyana Dharmachakra (KTD), the North American seat of His Holiness the Gyalwa Karmapa. We follow the spiritual guidance of the 17th Karmapa, Orgyen Trinley Dorje, as well as Khenpo Karthar Rinpoche, abbot of KTD Monastery, and the Lamas and teachers of KTD. Visit the Albuquerque KTC to:
Experience an extr

aordinary space for group and individual practice. Receive instruction in meditation and Buddhist fundamentals. Participate in Buddhist-friendly social activities and outings. Establish a personal connection with the Karma Kagyu school of Tibetan Buddhism, founded in Tibet, 900 years ago! We invite you to visit the Albuquerque KTC, one of the first Buddhist centers established in New Mexico. Information for beginners in Buddhism and meditation is provided by appointment. A traditional tantric puja (chanting & meditation) is held every Sunday at 10:00AM (visitors welcome). More in-depth introductory dharma classes are also offered periodically. The center also maintains a library of books on Tibetan Buddhism, as well as audio and video recordings of teachings. Please contact us for information on the availability of these materials for check-out. In our activities, we place the emphasis on our direct connection with His Holiness, the Karmapa and the Karma Kagyu Lineage, and on traditional Vajrayana (tantric) practices and Lojong (Mind Training), with the aim of calming the mind and emotions, and developing spiritual insight and wisdom. For instruction and guidance, we rely upon the Lamas and teachers of KTD Monastery, who regularly visit our center. In the words of the Mahamudra Lineage Supplication, "the lama opens the door to the profound oral teachings." The center's ability to maintain this connection and practice depends on the support and participation of practitioners. This teaching is the final level of KTD's Dharma Paths curriculum program.

The Ganges Mahamudra is a celebrated song of realization attributed to the Indian Buddhist master Tilopa (988–1069 CE). According to tradition, Tilopa sang it spontaneously to his disciple Naropa on the banks of the Ganges River, bringing on his full awakening. The song is a pithy, poetic transmission of Mahamudra, a direct-pointing meditation teaching that emphasizes resting the mind in its natural, unelaborated state. It remains one of the most revered texts in the Kagyu tradition.
