HORMESIS
Hormesis is a biological process where a small or moderate amount of stress can trigger beneficial adaptations in the body.
A little stress can be a biological signal for ADAPTATION.
In a sauna, heat stress raises body temperature and activates protective pathways, including heat-shock proteins. (Heat shock proteins (HSPs) are protective proteins that cells produce in response to stress, especially heat. They act like cellular “repair and protection” systems, helping proteins maintain their proper shape, assisting with damaged proteins, and supporting cellular recovery.)
THE HEAT IS THE STRESS.
The stress triggers those heat-shock proteins.
And that cellular response is part of how your body adapts.
And that’s hormesis: a controlled stressor creating a signal for adaptation.
