A "pinched nerve" happens when surrounding tissue puts pressure on a nerve.
Depending on where that nerve is located, the symptoms may show up somewhere else entirely.
For example, a pinched nerve in your neck may cause pain, tingling, or numbness that travels into your shoulder, arm, or hand. One in your lower back may cause symptoms that travel into your buttocks or leg.
Not every tingle means you have a pinched nerve, but persistent pain, numbness, tingling, or weakness is worth getting checked.
A neurological or spine evaluation can help determine where your symptoms are coming from and what treatment may help.
