Our ministry was proud to participate in a Health Fair at Coca-Cola Bottling Co. last month, helping employees learn more about prevention, wellness and lifesaving skills.

Our team provided education on diabetes prevention and management, stroke awareness and blood pressure control. Participants also had the opportunity to take part in hands-only CPR training, giving them practical knowledge that can make a difference during an emergency.

Events like this allow us to extend our mission beyond the walls of the hospital and partner with local organizations to promote health and community education throughout Central Louisiana.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this event possible and to Coca-Cola for welcoming us!

Congratulations to Michael Irvine, RN, our newest DAISY Award Honoree!

Michael is recognized for the compassion, patience and respect he showed while caring for a patient in 3 North. His nominator shared that Michael stepped into a hectic schedule with calm professionalism, answered every call with kindness and made sure the patient felt heard and supported.

When it was time for discharge, Michael took extra care to make sure everything was clear and that the patient had no remaining questions. He also made sure the discharge address would work, recognizing the patient’s housing situation and treating them with dignity throughout the process.

Through his compassion and patient-centered care, Michael reflects the heart of nursing and our mission to extend the healing ministry of Jesus Christ.

During Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Diagnostic Radiologist Dr. Cheryl Knatt encourages routine mammograms as a way to detect changes early. According to Dr. Knatt, early detection remains one of the most powerful tools in the fight against breast cancer. She recommends that women discuss their personal risk factors with their healthcare provider and make screening a priority. A mammogram takes about 20 minutes and could make a life-changing difference by helping identify cancer at its earliest, most treatable stage.

In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, we are celebrating saints like Saint Rose of Lima.

Born Isabel Flores de Oliva in Lima, Peru, in 1586, Rose became the first canonized saint of the Western Hemisphere. From childhood, she was known for her deep love of God, devotion to prayer and commitment to a life centered on Christ.

Inspired by Saint Catherine of Siena, Rose chose a life of sacrifice, humility and service. Though her family hoped she would marry, she remained devoted to her vow of virginity and later received the habit of Saint Dominic.

Rose’s life of prayer never closed her heart to others. She helped support her family through embroidery and lacework, and her days were marked by charity work and devotion. Canonized in 1671, Saint Rose of Lima remains a beloved witness of faith and love for God.

We had a great time partnering with the athletic trainers and coaches at Pineville High School for some CPR simulation training. Participants worked through a realistic cardiac arrest scenario, gaining hands-on experience with emergency response protocols and learning how to properly use life-saving equipment. Thank you to everyone who took part in helping ensure athletes receive the fastest and safest care possible when every second counts.

According to Urology Specialist Dr. Robert Fontane, Prostate Cancer Awareness Month serves as an important reminder that prioritizing preventive care is one of the best investments a man can make for both himself and his family. He encourages men to talk with their healthcare provider about their individual risk factors and screening options, as early detection can make a significant difference. Depending on the stage and characteristics of the disease, prostate cancer treatment may include active surveillance, surgery, radiation therapy, hormone therapy, or a combination of these approaches. Men at increased risk for prostate cancer include those age 50 and older, Black men, and men with a family history of the disease.

During Sepsis Awareness Month, Emergency Medicine Specialist Dr. Dennis Thompson, Rapid Response R.N. Ryan Higginbotham, and Sepsis Coordinator Julie Bordelon encourage others to listen to their bodies. Since sepsis is not the actual infection, but rather the result of what that infection creates in your body, seeking care early can be critical, as a local problem can turn into a full-body emergency. Once a patient has been diagnosed, they say recovery depends on the type of infection, pre-existing conditions, and how long they wait to present to the ER for treatment. Waiting too long can allow the condition to progress, potentially leading to more serious complications and a longer recovery. Don't delay. Get the right care today.

In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, we are celebrating saints like Saint Óscar Romero.

Born in El Salvador in 1917, Romero became one of Latin America’s most courageous voices for justice, peace and human dignity. Though he was once viewed as cautious, his leadership changed after he became archbishop in 1977 and witnessed the violence and suffering inflicted on the poor.

Romero began preaching boldly against violence, corruption and the abuse of the powerless, knowing his words could cost him his life. His defense of the poor and vulnerable earned admiration around the world, including a nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize.

On March 24, 1980, while celebrating Mass, Romero was assassinated. Declared a martyr and canonized in 2018, Saint Óscar Romero remains a prophetic witness to justice, peace and the Gospel’s call to love and defend the vulnerable.
