The Push to Make Workplaces More Menopause-Friendly - New legislation and high-profile advocates are challenging the long-standing silence around menopause at work. Struggling with concentration during a big client meeting or breaking into a heavy sweat while presenting to investors can undermine any professional. But for women experiencing menopause, the time when menstrual periods permanently cease, there's a real anxiety that these symptoms will erode their careers, leading to a premature exit from the workforce. It doesn't help that menopause is historically under-discussed, especially in the office... https://washingtonian.com/2026/09/01/the-push-to-make-workplaces-more-menopause-friendly

Fierce Pharma Marketing -- Bausch + Lomb survey reveals low dry eye awareness for perimenopausal, postmenopausal women - Bausch + Lomb is flagging dry eye disease as one of the least recognized symptoms present in perimenopausal and postmenopausal women.

That's according to the results of the 2026 Bausch + Lomb (Peri)Menopause Survey, which was undertaken by market research platform among 402 women ages 30-80-plus who are perimenopausal, menopausal or postmenopausal. It showed that just 14% of perimenopausal and postmenopausal women recognize dry eye as a menopause-related symptom. This contrasts with the 79% who recognize hot flashes... https://www.fiercepharma.com/marketing/bausch-lomb-survey-reveals-low-dry-eye-awareness-symptom-perimenopausal-postmenopausal

Support Menopause Research and Clinical Training - 75 million women in the U.S. are currently in perimenopause, menopause, or post-menopause, with 6,000 more reaching menopause each day. Yet despite affecting half the population, menopause has historically been under-researched, underfunded, and overlooked within the healthcare system.

The Advancing Menopause Care and Mid-Life Women's Health Act (S. 4503/H.R. 9090) and the Menopause Medical School Students Education Act (H.R. 9273) would address these gaps by directing $275 million over five years toward NIH menopause research, provider education and training programs, a national public awareness campaign, and Centers of Excellence for menopause care, with specific provisions for rural and underserved communities.

❗️CALL TO ACTION: Call your representatives in Congress to co-sponsor and support this necessary legislation and research! And, here's a sample of what to say: https://5calls.org/issue/womens-health-menopause-research/

NIH COMMIT Challenge: Opening Fall 2026 The NIH Office of Research on Women's Health (ORWH) is launching the COMpetency in Menopause & Integrated Therapy (COMMIT) Challenge, national prize competition with a $2.5 million prize purse designed to identify and reward exemplary menopause‑related curricula across U.S. health education and professional training programs.

Opening this fall, the COMMIT Challenge invites health education programs to submit evidence‑based, scalable, and competency‑aligned curricula across disciplines that improve menopause care. Programs may qualify by demonstrating structured, comprehensive training models that enhance provider knowledge, support team‑based care, and advance women's health across the menopausal transition. Eligible submissions may include courses, workshops, seminar, or webinar series, coaching or mentoring models, immersive training experiences, and supervised clinical training programs.

Congratulations and great to see National Menopause Foundation, Inc. Medical Advisory Committee (MAC) member, Emily Lau, MD featured in this article of the September issue of American College of Cardiology Cardiology Magazine, "Online Exclusive | Lifting Talented Women in Cardiology: ACC's Using Her Voice Scholars Program"!

Women have made remarkable strides in academic medicine, yet they remain underrepresented in tenured faculty positions and leadership roles. The Women in Academic Cardiology Work Group of ACC's Academic Cardiology Member Section launched the Using Her Voice Scholars Program in late 2025 to help address this gap. The initiative connects emerging leaders with senior ACC mentors, builds critical career skills, expands professional networks and creates pathways to high-visibility speaking opportunities.

Pioneered by Lau, MD, FACC, and Tweet, MD, FACC, the program supports early career women physicians, clinicians, clinician-educators and researchers who are current ACC members and within seven years of completing training... https://www.acc.org/Latest-in-Cardiology/Articles/2026/09/01/01/Online-Exclusive-Lifting-Talented-Women

Inevitable yet ignored: Prison policies disregard the realities of menopause behind bars -- The Prison Policy Initiative survey of state and federal prison policies shows just how little institutional attention is paid to menopause-related healthcare and education behind bars, despite the growing population of aging incarcerated women.

With thousands of women over the age of 50 incarcerated in state and federal prisons, health changes related to menopause should be a significant part of the conversation around prison healthcare. Unfortunately, while advocates and healthcare providers are discussing menopause education, advocacy, and healthcare access, incarcerated women are almost entirely left out of the picture. Their exclusion is particularly troubling because women's incarceration has grown even more rapidly than men's, and since 2008, the percentage of women in prison who were 50 or older has more than doubled. Given the serious need, what is the state of menopause care and education behind bars?... https://www.prisonpolicy.org/blog/2026/09/01/menopause_policies/

Employee Benefits -- Bristol Myers Squibb receives menopause-friendly accreditation honour in recognition of achieving menopause-friendly accreditation across the UK, US and Australia. The accreditation was established by Menopause in the Workplace by Henpicked. It requires employers to demonstrate their effectiveness in culture, policies and practices, training, engagement and working environment.

The menopause-friendly honour is awarded to organisations that have committed to embed meaningful support for staff across different regions, cultures and workplaces...

In 2021, a personal story from a BMS UK employee acted as a catalyst for senior leadership to introduce training initiatives. Inspired by the UK's success, in 2023 BMS Australia worked towards achieving accreditation. BMS US was accredited as menopause-friendly in November 2025. It introduced menopause awareness sessions and training modules to normalise the conversation and reduce the stigma. It also rolled out a dedicated menopause hub as well as robust guidelines to educate staff on menopause phases, hormones, symptoms, support and resources... https://www.employeebenefits.co.uk/menopause-fertility-and-pregnancy/2026/09/01/bristol-myers-squibb-receives-menopause-friendly-accreditation-honour/
