HOW TO TALK TO YOUR PARTNER ABOUT HEARING LOSS

Living with someone who can’t hear can be frustrating, especially when they are unaware of the problem. If they constantly ask you to repeat yourself, turn up the volume on the television to an uncomfortable level, or have trouble hearing the telephone, microwave or doorbell chime, it might be time to have a heart-to-heart chat. Pick a quiet time when the two of you are in a good mood and you can talk uninterrupted. Use a firm, caring tone that is not judgmental or condescending.

Tell them it's affecting your relationship. While your communication partner may be concerned about the stigma of wearing hearing aids, someone saying "what?" all the time can be a relationship buzzkill. Hearing loss affects communication, which is the core of all relationships.

Tell them you’re concerned for their health. When hearing loss is left untreated, the speech and language areas of the brain can atrophy, leading to auditory deprivation and putting a person at increased risk of cognitive, or memory decline.

Tell them you’re concerned for your own health. The additional stress of worrying about your other half's health and safety can take a physical and emotional toll on your own health. Plus, it's no fun to listen to the TV or stereo when it's cranked up too high, or having to shout or constantly repeat yourself.

Make an appointment to have your own hearing tested and ask them to go with you. First of all, it’s something you should do anyway. Secondly, it’s always good to have another set of ears to hear what the hearing care provider has to say, no matter who the patient is. Who knows? The hearing evaluation process is so simple and easy, they might just agree to have their own test.

Discuss hearing loss's broad impact. They may not be aware of all the ways that their hearing loss is lowering their quality of life. Discuss the signs of hearing loss with them, including signs like fatigue and feeling frustrated a lot.

I know we talk about reviews a lot and ask for YOUR review, but reviews are very important to a business.

“Why” are they so important? Notice this comment from Rocket Digital;

The power of the customer testimonial cannot be underestimated in its influence on other potential customers. You can tell me you are nice, and I may believe you. However, if an unbiased third party tells me you are nice, I’d be much more inclined to believe it. In fact, one recent study suggests that customer reviews are the most powerful purchase influence. Another study found that 88% of consumers consult reviews before making a purchase, and yet another study indicated that 63% of consumers are more likely to make a purchase from a site that has customer reviews.

If you haven't given us a review lately, or not at all, please take a moment of your time to do so. We have two easy ways to access our Google reviews, either by QR code or link.

Remember, your peers, friends and family are reading reviews to help them determine where they would like to receive service. Help them to choose US!

Even though we live here in Louisiana, and spring seems to be popping up everywhere, we are not out of the woods yet (or done with winter). Remember, just a couple years ago we had an ice storm during this week! Or, you may decide to get in some spring time skiing before the snow up north melts!

Caring for hearing aids in colder weather
In places where it gets cold, it can be tough on a lot of things: automobiles, fingers and toes, and our psyche. But it doesn’t need to be hard on hearing aids, so long as you keep in mind a few things to do — and not do — when wearing hearing aids in cold weather.

Five do’s
*Be careful when removing hats and scarves to avoid pulling off and losing your hearing aids. This goes for masks too!
*Keep spare batteries on hand (or a charger with you for rechargeable devices) as winter cold can drain batteries faster than normal.
*Consider removing your hearing aids when participating in winter activities like skiing or snowmobiling to avoid losing your hearing aids or exposing them to excess moisture.
*When coming in from the cold, let your hearing aids rest awhile by removing them, and opening the battery door to let moisture/condensation escape. (Rechargeable hearing aids can simply be wiped with a dry cloth after removal.)
*Use a hearing aid dehumidifier to help extend the life of your hearing aids.

Five don’ts
*Don’t worry that cold weather will necessarily harm your hearing aids — they’re made of tough stuff!
*Don’t store batteries or chargers in the car.
*Don’t store your rechargeable hearing aids in a heated drying system.
*Don’t forget to keep up with the daily cleaning regimen of your hearing aids.
*Don’t hesitate to call your hearing professional if you notice distortion, sound cutting in and out, or static from your hearing aids.
