🕷️ Important Tick Safety Reminder for Parents 🕷️
With warmer weather and more outdoor activities, ticks are very active in grassy, wooded, and park areas. Please take a few moments to check your child for ticks after spending time outdoors, including at playgrounds, sports fields, camps, hikes, or backyard play.
🔎 Common places ticks hide:
• Scalp and hairline
• Behind the ears
• Under arms
• Around the waist
• Behind knees
• Between legs
• Around socks and shoe lines
✅ Prevention Tips:
• Use an EPA-approved insect repellent when outdoors
• Wear light-colored clothing to spot ticks more easily
• Tuck pants into socks in wooded or tall grassy areas
• Shower or bathe after outdoor activities
• Wash clothing in hot water after being outside
• Check pets regularly, as they can bring ticks indoors
⚠️ If you find a tick:
• Remove it promptly with fine-tipped tweezers
• Grasp close to the skin and pull straight out gently
• Clean the area with soap and water
• Monitor for fever, rash, fatigue, or flu-like symptoms and contact your healthcare provider if symptoms develop
Early detection and removal are important in helping prevent tick-borne illnesses such as Lyme disease.
Thank you for helping keep our children safe and healthy this season!
