It isn't often that a person gets to give back to the community in a large way. This past weekend I was given the privilege of volunteering for Cancer Hope Foundation in Ojai. There, a dedicated team of massage therapists (students, graduates, teachers, and I) were given the opportunity to work on cancer survivors and their families to give them a small break from the every day reminder that cancer is a very real part of their lives.
Its hard. It affects us all in so many ways. Not only the person with cancer, but also, their support system. Their families and friends and caregivers. I know from personal experience.
But I also see how beautiful it is to have so many people be there for each other. Brethren who share a knowledge that we hope doesnt have to be shared. Were there for each other. The therapists are there to give them relief and they are there to remind us of why we do what we do....to help people.
Sometimes all you need is a gentle hand to touch you and give you its warmth. Our team gives massage (Swedish, Shiatsu, Sports), hand massage, facials, hair cuts, foot reflexology, and a smile that shows you that you are seen and heard.
Thank all of you for being human. For showing love. It is the greatest gift you can give.
