It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Armando Ignacio Martinez Sr. on June 5, 2026 surrounded by his loving family. He was born February 1, 1935 to Emilia and Jose Carmen Martinez in General ZuaZua N.L., Mexico.
Armando was a devout man who was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. He was a member of the Mutualistas and Cursillistas of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church and served on the Board of Directors of the Guadalupe Haciendas.
He was a hard worker. He was a brick layer and laid tile on many, many homes, if not most here in Alice. When he wasn’t working, he enjoyed spending time with his family and loved ones, and enjoyed hobbies like fishing, dancing, football, horse racing, and managed a men’s softball team. He was also an avid Cowboys fan, and a big fan of the Alice Coyotes. You would always find him sitting in the stands on a Friday night.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Porfirio “Pilo” Martinez, and Gilberto Martinez.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 69 years; Elida Martinez; children, Hilda (Ricardo) Montemayor, Mary (Roger) Saenz, Armando (Melba) Martinez Jr., nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
A Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 10, 2026 at Holmgreen Mortuary at 8:00 AM with a Holy Rosary to be recited at 8:30 AM. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church with a burial to follow at Roselawn Cemetery.
Arrangements are entrusted to Holmgreen Mortuary, 2061 E. Main St., Alice.
Condolences for the family may be offered at www.holmgreenmortuaryinc.com and shared via Holmgreen Facebook.
