Summer Sun Safety for Babies and Kids:

Children’s skin is especially sensitive to UV exposure, and sun protection matters more than many people realize. Childhood sunburns can increase the risk of skin damage later in life, which is why sunscreen, protective clothing, shade, and avoiding peak sun hours all matter. And no- there’s no such thing as a “safe base tan.” Healthy sun habits start early. ☀️🧴🕶️

Well-child visits are about prevention, not just illness.

These visits help monitor growth, development, nutrition, sleep, vaccines, and screen for concerns before they become bigger problems.

They also give families a chance to discuss questions about behavior, school, mental health, or development. Catching concerns early often leads to better outcomes- and routine visits play an important role in that. 🩺📈💛

Mental health is part of overall health. Anxiety, stress, mood changes, sleep problems, or behavior changes can show up in children in ways that are easy to miss.

Many mental health conditions begin during childhood or adolescence, which is one reason early support matters.

Open conversations, routines, and checking in regularly with children about how they feel can make a meaningful difference. 💚🧠✨

Fatigue in children can sometimes be related to poor sleep, busy schedules, stress, or nutrition- but it can also have medical causes worth evaluating.

Iron deficiency, for example, is one possible contributor and is not uncommon in children. Persistent fatigue, low energy, trouble concentrating, or fatigue paired with other symptoms should not be ignored.

If your child seems unusually tired compared with their normal baseline, it may be worth checking in. 😴💙

Recurrent stomach pain in children is common and can have many causes, including constipation, reflux, food sensitivities, viral illness, or even stress and anxiety. In some cases, functional abdominal pain (pain without a serious underlying disease) is more common than parents realize.

But pain that is persistent, worsening, or associated with vomiting, fever, weight loss, or bowel changes deserves attention. If your child complains often, it may be worth discussing with your pediatrician. 🤍🩺

Drowning is a leading cause of injury-related death in young children, and it can happen quickly and silently.

Layers of protection matter: close adult supervision, swim lessons when age-appropriate, properly fitted life jackets, and barriers like pool fences and locked gates.

Even strong swimmers need supervision. A few simple precautions can help make water safer for everyone this summer. 💦🏊‍♀️🛟

Warmer weather means more outdoor play- but also more exposure to ticks and mosquitoes. Using age-appropriate insect repellent, checking for ticks after time outdoors, and avoiding standing water around the home can help lower risk.

Tick-borne illnesses, including Lyme disease, have increased in some regions, and mosquitoes can spread illnesses beyond causing itchy bites. Prevention matters, especially as children spend more time outside in spring and summer. 🦟🌿👟

Summer can bring more freedom- but also disrupted routines.

Children still benefit from regular sleep, balanced meals, physical activity, and limited screen time. Experts recommend school-age children get 9–12 hours of sleep per night, yet many fall short when routines shift during breaks.

Rising temperatures also increase the risk of dehydration, especially during outdoor play and sports. Summer is a great time to prioritize healthy habits, schedule checkups, and keep kids active and well. 🌞🍉⚽

Summer camp can be a great experience, but preparation matters- especially for children with medical needs.

Before camp starts, make sure required physicals and health forms are complete, immunizations are up to date, and the camp has written instructions for any medications, allergies, asthma action plans, or emergency medications like EpiPens. This is especially important considering food allergies affect about 1 in 13 children in the U.S.

A pre-camp checkup is also a good time to review any chronic conditions and make sure your child is ready for a safe, healthy summer. ☀️🏕️🩺
