💡 I had an a-ha moment this past month. And it has me shooketh.

It’s all grief. Emotional eating that isn't about hunger, spending that makes a hard day survivable, or reaching for people in ways that don't leave you less alone.

When a loss, any loss, goes unacknowledged, the grief still has to go somewhere. Because grief follows how much something mattered, be it a person, a pet, a career or your place in the universe.

→ A long-term relationship that ended, even one that needed to
→ A family member you're estranged from
→ A career or role you built a whole self around
→ A body that works differently than it used to
→ A future you'd already started living toward
-> A world that no longer feels safe

We have a script for death: flowers, a service, a few days off work, a text on the anniversary. Most other losses arrive with none of that.

I’m excited to start building that bridge.

The 24-hour news cycle is hazardous to our health.

But what if you just turned it off? Some note feelings of guilt or even betrayal if they are not tuned into what’s going on in the world.

Just a reminder that we can care deeply about something without being flooded by it. Staying activated around the clock is not the same as doing something. It mostly costs you, while changing nothing for anyone else.

Chronic activation with no endpoint doesn't stay in the head — it shows up through behavior. Eating past full at 11pm. The impulsive Sephora binge. The text to the person you swore off.

They all deliver a small, fast, reliable end to the discomfort. Emphasis on the fast.
Then it's gone; the news still sucks, but there's shame on top.

If you recognize the pattern, that's the part worth working with — not the news habit, and not your willpower. What's underneath it.

💛 Have you ever felt embarrassed about how hard a celebrity death hit you?

We live in a culture that avoids conversations about death and grief in general, but when we do, there are rules about whose death we're allowed to be sad about. A family member, a friend, a pet — sanctioned.

Someone whose voice was the soundtrack to your twenties? Someone whose movies you spent hours watching with your grandma as a kid? Someone whose show you binged with your best friend in college?

That one you're supposed to shake off.

What helps is understanding *what* you're actually grieving. It's not about celebrity worship, it's understanding what they or their work meant for you. Without judgment.

Ask yourself:
❓️ What chapter of my life do I associate with this person?
❓️ Did they represent something culturally that is important — or that I took for granted?
❓️ Is there something about *how* they died that is activating something in me?
❓️ Am I grieving something beyond this person — a version of myself, a sense of safety, a confrontation with something I've been avoiding?

Remember, feelings that can't find a door still find an exit. Often through eating, spending, scrolling, or staying very, very busy.

🧩 Two people can struggle with completely different behaviors and still be trying to meet the same emotional need.

Whether it's food, spending, work, or relationships, the behavior is often a response to something deeper: stress, loneliness, shame, or the need to feel safe.
💭 Lasting change begins when we stop asking, "What's wrong with me?" and start asking, "What is this behavior trying to do for me?"

✨ Every behavior has a backstory. Healing doesn't start with stopping the behavior — it starts with understanding what it was doing for you.

🤍 Ready to look at the whole pattern instead of one piece of it? Consultation link in bio.

Let’s be honest — most of us try to feel better by managing or outsmarting every thought and emotion.

ACT (Acceptance & Commitment Therapy) teaches how to stay open, aware, and aligned — even when life feels heavy.

Here’s the real-world version 👇🏾

🌟 Acceptance — Making space for what’s hard instead of fighting it.
🌟 Defusion — Noticing your thoughts without letting them run the show.
🌟 Present Awareness — Coming back to right now.
🌟 Self-as-Context — You’re not your thoughts; you’re the one noticing them.
🌟 Values — Let what matters most lead the way.
🌟 Committed Action — One small step in that direction — even if fear tags along.

Check back soon for more about how I use ACT working with eating disorders, compulsive relationship behaviors and financial disorders!

If you’ve ever caught yourself scrolling and thought, “Wait… what am I even looking for?” — same.
We are bombarded with content and need to be discerning about what we are allowing into our consciousness. Because we are apparently living in the upside-down world, here are a few apps that I've found that help with information and tech overload

🧘🏾‍♀️ Endel for calm - creates personalized soundscapes—somehow knowing when I need focus, rest, or calm. It’s like a sonic weighted blanket for my brain.
🚫 Opal for boundaries - locks distracting apps so my brain can focus on what matters. I have mine set to lock for one hour after 15 minutes on social media
🧠 Elevate for focus - brain games help me stay sharp without feeling like work
📚 Audible for reflection/distraction - For when my eyes say “no more screens,” but my brain still wants to learn something
🎵 Spotify for emotional regulation - my unofficial life coach and mood equalizer. The genre roulette never misses (imho)

How do you shut down the noise so you can focus?

Our bodies weren't meant for the 24-hour news cycle and it lets us know when things are "off"

It’s not just you. Every ping, post, and “breaking news” alert tells our brains we’re in danger — That’s not anxiety “for no reason” — that’s overwhelm with too many reasons.
