FOODIE FRIDAY 🥑 Happy National Avocado Day! 🥑

Avocados have earned their reputation as a nutrition powerhouse, but they are also a great reminder that even healthy foods should be enjoyed in appropriate portions.

Why Avocados Are Great for Active Individuals??
Avocados are packed with nutrients that support overall health and athletic performance:

🏃 Heart-Healthy Monounsaturated Fats These healthy fats help support cardiovascular health and can contribute to lasting energy throughout the day.

💪 Potassium Avocados contain more potassium per serving than many people realize. Potassium plays a key role in muscle contraction, fluid balance, and nerve function, making it especially important for active individuals who sweat during exercise.

🌱 Fiber With approximately 10 grams of fiber per avocado, they can help promote fullness, support digestive health, and assist with maintaining stable energy levels.

🛡️ Vitamins and Antioxidants Avocados provide vitamin K, folate, vitamin E, and vitamin C, along with antioxidants that help support recovery and overall wellness.

⚠️ Keep Portions in Mind While avocados are nutrient-dense, they are also calorie-dense. One medium avocado contains about 240 calories, so portion size matters when balancing energy intake with your goals. A serving of about one-third to one-half of an avocado is often enough to provide nutritional benefits without overdoing calories.

🥗 Recipe Idea: High-Protein Avocado Chickpea Toast

Ingredients
• 2 slices whole-grain toast
• ½ avocado
• ½ cup mashed chickpeas
• 1 tablespoon plain Greek yogurt
• Squeeze of lemon juice
• Cherry tomatoes, sliced
• Everything bagel seasoning (optional)

Instructions
1. Mash chickpeas with Greek yogurt and lemon juice.
2. Spread evenly over toasted whole-grain bread.
3. Top with sliced avocado and cherry tomatoes.
4. Sprinkle with seasoning and enjoy!

This simple snack provides a balance of complex carbohydrates, protein, healthy fats, and fiber, making it a great option before or after a workout.

🥑 Remember: Healthy foods can fit into an active lifestyle, but balance and portion awareness are key. Enjoy the nutrition benefits of avocados while keeping your overall calorie needs in mind!

NEW! Massage at West End Fitness

The Heart of Monarch Massage

I’ve always been a healer at heart. Caring for others isn’t just something I do—it’s who I am.

I’m a mother of four, and for over 23 years I’ve worked as a respiratory therapist, supporting patients through some of their most vulnerable and critical moments. That work shaped me in profound ways and deepened my commitment to helping people feel safe, supported, and cared for.

Earlier in my journey, I spent several years immersed in birth work as a midwifery assistant, birth doula, and childbirth educator. Being part of such a powerful and transformative time in people’s lives was an incredible experience, and it continues to influence how I care for my clients today.

Over time, I felt called to shift away from the fast-paced, high-stress environment of bedside care and move toward something more intentional, calming, and restorative—for both myself and the people I serve. Massage therapy became that path.

My goal is simple: to create a space where you can slow down, breathe deeply, and reconnect with your body. Whether you’re carrying stress, pain, or just the weight of everyday life, I’m here to help you feel better—physically, mentally, and emotionally.

This work is more than a service to me. It’s a continuation of a lifelong calling to heal.

FOODIE FRIDAY: 🍎 FRUIT-- Nature’s Sweet Fuel 🍓

Fruit is one of the healthiest foods you can eat! It's packed with vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, fiber, and water that support energy, recovery, immunity, and overall health. But it's important to remember that fruit also contains natural sugar, so portion size still matters—especially if you're working toward specific fitness or weight-management goals.

✅ What is a standard serving of fruit?
• 1 small piece of fruit (apple, orange, peach)
• ½ large banana
• 1 cup berries, melon, or grapes
• ½ cup dried fruit

Most adults benefit from 2–3 servings of fruit per day as part of a balanced diet.

💪 Why pair fruit with protein? Fruit provides quick-digesting carbohydrates for energy, but adding protein helps: ✔ Keep you fuller longer
✔ Slow digestion and blood sugar spikes
✔ Support muscle recovery and growth
✔ Reduce post-snack hunger

Smart Fruit + Protein Snack Ideas 🍎 Apple slices + peanut butter
🍓 Strawberries + Greek yogurt
🍌 Banana + cottage cheese
🍇 Grapes + string cheese
🍑 Peach + handful of almonds
🥤 Protein shake + fresh berries

🍹 Fruit is Better Than Juice While 100% fruit juice contains some vitamins, it lacks many of the benefits of whole fruit:
❌ Less fiber
❌ Less fullness and satiety
❌ Easier to consume excess calories and sugar quickly

✅ Whole fruit keeps the fiber intact, helping you stay satisfied longer and supporting healthy digestion and blood sugar control.
Bottom Line: Fruit is an important part of a healthy diet and an excellent source of nutrients. Enjoy it daily, watch portions, pair it with protein when possible, and choose whole fruit more often than juice for the greatest health and fitness benefits.

FOODIE FRIDAY 🍇 July is National Blueberry Month! 🫐💪

Looking for a simple way to fuel your workouts and recovery? Blueberries may be small, but they're packed with nutrition that can support an active lifestyle.

✅ Hydration Support
Blueberries are made up of about 85% water, helping contribute to your daily fluid intake and keeping you refreshed during the summer months.
✅ Fiber for Sustained Energy
With approximately 4 grams of fiber per cup, blueberries can help promote fullness, support digestive health, and provide more sustained energy throughout your day.
✅ Powerful Antioxidants
Blueberries are rich in anthocyanins—natural antioxidants that give them their deep blue color. These compounds help combat exercise-related oxidative stress and support overall recovery.
✅ Vitamins & Minerals
Blueberries provide vitamin C, vitamin K, and manganese, nutrients that play important roles in immune function, bone health, and energy metabolism.
✅ Easy Performance Fuel
Add blueberries to smoothies, oatmeal, yogurt, cottage cheese, or enjoy them as a grab-and-go snack before or after a workout.

FOODIE FRIDAY☕ Coffee Tip for Heart Health ❤️

Did you know that how you brew your coffee can affect your LDL (“bad”) cholesterol levels?

Coffee naturally contains compounds called cafestol and kahweol. These compounds can raise LDL cholesterol, but the amount that ends up in your cup depends largely on the brewing method. Paper filters trap much of these cholesterol-raising compounds, while unfiltered methods allow more to pass through.

✅ Lower LDL Impact:
•Drip coffee with a paper filter
•Pour-over coffee with a paper filter
⚠️ Higher LDL Impact:
•French press
•Turkish coffee
•Boiled coffee
•Some espresso-based preparations

If you're working to improve your cholesterol numbers, switching to a paper-filtered brew may be a simple change that supports your heart health—without giving up your daily coffee ritual.

The way you brew your coffee could affect your heart health. Here's what research says about filtered vs. unfiltered coffee.
