Community Awareness Bulletins are provided to the public as part of an increased effort by the Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) to share important information concerning the safety and security of the citizens we serve. This Women’s History Month, we’re remembering Oveta Culp Hobby, who was the Department of Health, Education, and Welfare (HEW)’s first Secretary. She had previously served as Commander of the Women's Army Corps in World War II and was editor and publisher of the Houston Post. HEW later became HHS in 1980.
