Strategy spotlight 🔦⭐️ Visual Schedules!
Check out these tips for how to introduce a visual schedule!

✅ We recommend starting with all preferred activities.

✅Use “First/then” language. Sometimes this takes multiple models for children to understand the ‘first/then’ concept. Thats ok! High repetition of modeling is key!

✅While playing, casually remind them “Right now we are ____” and point to the appropriate schedule icon.

✅Talk about how the first activity is “all done” and what is next when they are ready to move on. Cross it off, or let them cross it off, to show that this activity is over.

✅Once your child has a good understanding of this, you can start to add in routine tasks that might not be their first choice (i.e., wash hands, take a bath, put on shoes, clean up, go inside, get in the car...) This will help the child remain emotionally regulated by making these necessary activities more concrete, and showing they have an ending.
