I love spiders! They are so amazing! What they do, how they look, everything about them. And did you know that they eat ticks?! Along with ants, beetles, and some species of mites, these critters are the natural predators of ticks, which seem to be exploding in most states, particularly Michigan. And they tell us to cut our grass short to make the environment less hospitable to ticks. This is wild advice! The kind of symptom based, snapshot advice that ends up allowing the original issue to explode, in this case, the proliferation of ticks. Ticks are one of those “endure at all cost” creatures, that when given an inhospitable environment, they’ll just push through. Remove their natural predators and it’s a borderline vacation spot… an environment, most true “pests” (the creatures not dissimilar to current humans and locusts) thrive in, when given the opportunity expand and devour irregardless of the system that they are a part of. So when you go to spray, when you go to cut your lawn short, remember that you’re creating an environment that’s an imbalanced ecosystem, and you might as well put out the welcome mat…”Ticks stay for free.”. * try to find her leg keeping tabs on her web in the third picture.
