School week continues here at Turning Brook with another fun school themed day! Today, we had Home Economics class, where we whipped up a delicious grape salad. It was so much fun and brought lots of laughs as we was in the process of making it. We also reminisced about our favorite school lunch, how we used to get to school, our favorite subjects, and so many other fond memories. It was definitely a great afternoon chatting, and enjoying a tasty treat together!

What would a school theme week be without a visit from Alpena Public Schools Superintendent David Rabbideau?

​We had a fantastic, interactive session with Mr. Rabbideau today! He touched on school improvements, the roles of the superintendent and board of education, CTE programs, and college course options for students plus he answered several great questions from the audience.

We can't wait to kick off a brand new month with our residents and community! We're starting September off by taking a trip down memory lane with a "School Days" theme week! Mid Month, we are looking forward to celebrating National Assisted Living week which is jam packed full of fun activities and dress up days to celebrate. Then to cap it all off, we're ending the month with a football theme complete with a Pep Rally featuring our local senior football players!

A huge thank you to Chief Andy Marceau and Training Officer Doug Keogh from the Alpena City Firefighters L623 for being our guest speakers today!

​They brought in their full response equipment that they use during emergency calls, giving us a great insight on the equipment they have bring with them, what each item does and why it’s so essential to have during calls. We also learned a lot about the department, their staffing, and how they handle calls behind the scenes.​ We loved the high energy and warmth both Andy and Doug brought to their presentation. We walked away with so much new knowledge and an even deeper respect for our local fire department and first responders.

We even had plenty of laughs when ​Andy shared a great story about participating in a donkey race last week at the fair.

We would like to thank both Andy and Doug for spending time with us this morning.

Today, the residents in Building 3 brought out their best moves for a fantastic Disco Party! Everyone danced along to some awesome, groovy tunes. They also enjoyed delicious Roy Rogers mocktails—a classic mix of cola, grenadine, and a cherry on top—paired with delicious cookies.

IT’S DISCO WEEK AT TURNING BROOK! 🕺

​We are having the absolute time of our lives reliving the groovy '70s!
​Yesterday, we kicked off the week getting creative and making our own far-out tie-dye coasters. ​Today, we got our move on with Exercise Inferno by dancing and grooving through every single exercise move under the disco light! ​We wrapped up the afternoon with a Pink Disco Party, grooving to classic hits, testing our knowledge with fun trivia, and sharing our favorite memories from the era.
​A huge THANK YOU to Ann Florip for donating the delicious Roy Rogers mocktails for our afternoon party! Paired with tasty snacks and great company, it was the ultimate disco celebration.

We wrapped up our Fair Week in the best way possible with a brand-new game created by our Life Enrichment Coordinator, Kim: Pigs on the Loose Dice Game!

​Residents split into teams, named their pigs, and rolled the dice to corral them back into the pen. But those tricky pigs had a mind of their own. Just when a team thought they were about to score, their pig would turn right back around and run the other way! ​Shoutout to our competing teams:​Team Pig Heaven and
​Team Elvis. After a hilarious, nail-biting match, Team Pig Heaven took home the win! ​To top off the fun, our residents showed off their talents with their absolute best pig impressions and loudest sooey calls. The laughter was heard down the hall.

​Following our exhausting round-up, we cooled down together by reminiscing about our favorite local fair memories and learning fun facts about fairs across the country.
