Today was such a wonderful day for our residents as they got an up close and personal look at Alpena Public Schools Career and Technical Education (CTE) building!

Our residents had the opportunity to tour several of the programs. It was so exciting to see the students learning hands on skills and getting real world experience in so many different fields. We were especially impressed learning about the many opportunities available to students including the ability to earn certifications and valuable skills before even graduating high school. What an amazing resource for our local students and our community! Our residents truly enjoyed seeing the classrooms, equipment, projects and the student's.

A huge thank you to Alpena High School and the CTE staff for welcoming us and giving us such an informative, enjoyable tour and for the wonderful mugs as a souvenir.

Today we were happy to welcome Bernie O’Brien, retired PA-C and Dusti Hipshire, Marketing & Outreach Manager with Alcona Health Center as our guest speakers!

Bernie shared some very important reminders about taking care of our health and overall wellness. We talked about the importance of scheduling our yearly wellness checks, staying up to date on vaccinations such as flu shots, drinking plenty of water, staying active and getting up and moving throughout the day. Even small steps toward a healthier lifestyle can make a big difference! Dusti also brought along some little gifts for everyone which was greatly appreciated.

Aviation Week is almost coming to a close but today was one for the books.

We started off by welcoming Wayne Lusardi, who gave a fascinating presentation on the life and journeys of Amelia Earhart. We were all captivated especially learning about her Michigan roots and frequent visits to our state! We was all amazed that one of our residents Dorothy shared that she actually met Amelia Earhart when she was just 4 or 5 years old! How awesome is that?

Then this afternoon, we boarded Bingo Airlines for 10 high flying rounds of bingo! Before takeoff, our residents completed their pre-flight stretches and secured their cards and chips with their Pilot Kim who dressed up and delivered a pre flight spiel to get everyone ready for takeoff. Despite a few "turbulences" (thanks to some lucky residents getting multiple bingo's), the flight went smoothly. A big congratulations to Joy, who won the coverall game and earned her official wings!

To top off an already amazing day, our local Country Chicks Line Dancers put on a wonderful performance for us!
