I ran across the ministry of Father Greg Boyle a few years ago. He is a Catholic priest, as well as the founder and director of Homeboy Industries, the world’s largest gang prevention and rehabilitation program. Yes, It is a fact I don’t see gang members in my practice, (that I am aware of anyway), but I do happen to believe he and I share a similar perspective about the environment we wish to offer individuals we see. Only he provided the words much more eloquently than I could ever have. Life happens, and therefore, all of us have some dust that needs to be “brushed off”. A safe, encouraging and trustworthy place to do so is the crux of how good therapy should begin. Thankful for these words!

This is your friendly Friday reminder: “Don’t take criticism from people you would never advice from”. ☀️ There are times you may need to filter out the opinions of others. In fact, in some instances it may even be wise.

Small shifts change the way we live, relate and care for ourselves . Sometimes clarity isn’t about adding more-it can be choosing less, with intention.

As we step out into a new year, I am reflecting on what supports nervous system health, meaningful rhythms and healthy relationships.

What are you choosing more- and less - of this year? #2026

If you are anything like me, you can find yourself trying to reason your way into feeling better — to think our way out of anxiety, overwhelm, or emotional intensity.

But interestingly enough, the nervous system doesn’t respond primarily to logic. It responds much more to safety, rhythm, connection, and lived experience.

Nervous system regulation is not about forcing calm by changing our thoughts. It’s about gently offering the body what it needs to settle — so the mind can follow.

There really is relief in knowing that calm is possible, just not in the way we may have first been taught.

If this resonates, you’re not alone. Small, steady supports make a meaningful difference over time.

The eloquent and authentic words of Brene Brown once again strikes a chord. Read below as she courageously shares the struggle of a challenging season:

I thought it was a break but it was more of a breaking. Not necessarily breaking down, but NOT not down. Maybe open.

It's been a tough season, but an important one. I shared my thoughts in a post on the new website, where you'll also find our latest project — The ABK Edit. I think you're going to love the stories.

From my wild heart to yours. ❤️

This is just beautiful.

the places in our heart
where the world took bites
out of us

may never fully heal
and will likely become open spaces

be careful to not fill them
with just anything or anyone

your wounds aren’t supposed
to become attics for you to hoard
unnecessary junk

these holes in our hearts
are holy sites

and we should treat
them as such

so when visiting your old wounds
make sure to take your shoes off
and turn off your cellphone

sit by candlelight
and watch how the shadows
tell the story how brave you are

~ to survive

Note to Self 🌻

Reading a new favorite on the inescapable topic of grief:

"Grief is not a problem to be solved, not a condition to be medicated, but a deep encounter with an essential experience of being human. Grief becomes problematic when the conditions needed to help us work with grief are absent. For example, when we are forced to carry our sorrow in isolation, or when the time needed to fully metabolize the nutrients of a particular loss is denied, and we are pressured to return to "normal" too soon. We are told to "get on with it" and "get over it". The lack of courtesy and compassion surrounding grief is astonishing, reflecting an underlying fear and mistrust of this basic human experience. We must find the courage once again, to walk its wild edge."

10 Things....

Beginning again works any day!

Beginning again works any day!

Midday Meditation: “Always, we begin again.” – St. Benedict

In the middle of a random Tuesday, let’s begin again. Let what has been go. Let yourself pick up *this* moment, and be present to it as a new beginning.

Take a breath, and begin to breathe.

Open your eyes and begin to see.

Begin a practice. Begin to grieve, or to forgive, or to love some part of yourself that has been neglected. Begin to trust, or doubt, or hope—even if you’ve begun it a hundred times before.

What are *you* being invited to begin today? Take a few deep breaths, and just notice the invitations of your own body, your soul, the Spirit in you. What do you find yourself *wanting* to begin, in this moment (and what are the things you tell yourself about whether that is possible right now? What if more is possible in this moment’s new beginning than you ever imagined?)?

Begin.

Again.

And again.

(And again.)
