It must be fall, as we had our first visit from the Altadena Library mobile library. Several residents browsed the books, ordered books for future visits, and applied for a library card. We are so happy to have monthly visits from the library and to be one of their community locations, bringing books to the residents of Altadena.

A beautiful moment in the MonteCedro memory care community, The Courtyards, when the residents started singing along to the song the violinist was playing. The residents were smiling and humming for most of the concert, but the singing lit up the room and made for a special day.

Today, the residents took part in a “Teaching Kitchen”
that focused on seafood. A wonderful lecture was presented about the benefits of the Mediterranean diet, of which seafood is a large part. While they were learning about the superfoods that keep the brain and body healthy, they enjoyed fresh ceviche. Executive Chef Jared, then gave a cooking demonstration. It was a wonderfully educational experience and a gift to each residents future self, as they begin to incorporate some of the healthy eating tips into their everyday lives.

Today the residents enjoyed an outdoor presentation with Raptor Events. The wonderful handler talked about each bird as she walked around and let the residents get an up close look. Each of the four raptors: two owls, a hawk, and a falcon, were beautiful to view. We were lucky enough to watch the hawk fly several times, lightly brushing its wings on a few residents heads as it swooped over. Such a spectacular event to bring our summer programs to a close and launch us into a fall filled with lectures, music, and social events.

The always charming and hilarious Fritz Coleman performed for the residents tonight. A packed house dissolved into laughter and kept laughing for an hour! What a fun and wonderful way to spend a Thursday night!

This week, the residents took a trip to the Wende Museum. A wonderful docent took them on a guided tour, followed by free time to explore a bit. The day wrapped up with a lovely lunch and time for relaxing outside.

Today, the residents enjoyed a silk scarf painting class, with Gaby and Loren, two wonderful artists and instructors. Every piece was different as the participants created their own wearable masterpiece.

When your soon to be renovated auditorium is empty for a couple more days - you throw a “Big Empty Auditorium” party with Decades of Rock! Music filled the lower level of MonteCedro as residents danced the night away and laughed with friends. It was good vibes all around as each favorite tune was played and residents took to the dance floor!
