This past week residents enjoyed a lecture by our wonderful Creative Living partners at the LA Arboretum. Arboretum curator Jim Henrich presented “The Wild Creatures of the Arboretum” where he talked about the various birds, reptiles and animals that call the grounds home. It was an entertaining and engaging hour filled with stories and fun facts about all the fantastic critters.

Baking! A favorite event in our memory care community “The Courtyards,” is our Creative Cooking program. Residents assist the team in mixing, measuring, and creating delicious treats and snacks. Today, monster cookies! They are as good as they look! Each resident enjoyed a cookie with their afternoon coffee or tea, enjoying the product of their efforts.

Last night MonteCedro residents visited Mount Wilson with our Creative Living partners from the Carnegie Observatories. The residents enjoyed a boxed lunch while listening to a lecture on the history of Mount Wilson, before heading over to the 60 inch telescope. While in the observatory residents viewed a double star and a globular of stars through the telescope. It was an unforgettable night!

Thank you to the amazing team from Carnegie and Mount Wilson for a very special experience!

Today is National Senior Fitness Day! At MonteCedro, we held our annual walk to celebrate the day and encourage the residents to get outside and exercise. Today’s theme “Move a Little, Live a Lot: Be the Champion of your Own Fitness!” The walk inspired everyone to walk continuously for thirty minutes, while enjoying music, cheering staff, and camaraderie. The event ended with fresh fruit and pastries in Station 8.

This Memorial Day, we gathered to honor the lives and legacies of those lost in recent wars through “Ways to Honor and Remember.” This program featured powerful portrait tributes to fallen soldiers, painted by MonteCedro residents and staff. This event invited us to reflect, remember and ensure their stories, and all the stories of fallen soldiers are never forgotten.
