Spending thousands on Botox for TMJ and still in pain?

For a lot of people, the jaw is only part of the problem.

TMJ dysfunction is often connected to the neck, posture, stress patterns, breathing mechanics, and deeper muscles like the pterygoids.

TMJ is one of the most common problems I see… but is by far one of the most undertreated.

What made me focus so heavily on this work was realizing how many people struggle with chronic clenching and jaw tension, while having very few truly specialized treatment options available.

And unlike many chronic pain issues, TMJ can affect a surprisingly young population too.

The jaw is sensitive, complex, and incredibly specific. That’s why this work looks subtle, but every angle, pressure change, and contact point matters.

For a lot of people, these deeper structures are never truly addressed.

Most TMJ treatments never even address this muscle.

The pterygoid is one of the deeper muscles involved in jaw tension, clenching, headaches, clicking, and facial pain — and because of how deep it sits inside the jaw, treating it requires a completely different level of precision.

This work looks subtle because the jaw is incredibly sensitive. It’s not about using as much pressure as possible. It’s about knowing exactly where to work and how much pressure to use.

A lot of people dealing with chronic jaw tension have never had these deeper structures addressed.

Most people watch this and think I’m barely doing anything.

That’s because TMJ work isn’t always big movements and brute force. Sometimes the most advanced work is subtle, precise, and requires knowing exactly where, when, and how much pressure to use.

Anyone who has dealt with TMJ knows how sensitive these areas can be.

This is called a Frontomax Release — one small piece of a much larger TMJ process.

You almost never see me on the receiving end of treatment.

Over the last few days I’ve been learning advanced TMJ work, and part of the training means I have to receive every technique myself too.

What you’re seeing here is called facial bone mobilization. The movements are subtle, but the goal is helping restore movement and reduce restriction around the face and jaw.

What’s been blowing my mind is realizing that TMJ issues often aren’t just jaw issues.

Jaw clicking. Clenching. Headaches. Neck tension. Ear symptoms. Facial tension. Even posture.

The deeper I get into this training, the more I’m realizing this is much bigger than I originally thought.
