We've received a lot of questions asking for ideas for back to school lunches. Here is what our children eat regularly. When we think about creating a blood sugar balancing healthy lunch box we want the following....
A protein
Vegetables
Fruit
Healthy fat
Carb
Small treat

If your child is in a low histamine season see our previous low histamine grocery shopping list post and choose a protein, fat, vegetable, fruit, and carb to build their lunchbox.

Gluten free sandwiches with Costco organic turkey and Canyon Bakehouse bread or a siete wrap with chicken or turkey or banana and but butter is another idea, meatballs as another protein source, leftovers of they're okay eating them cold, tuna or egg salad, chicken strips, etc.

Let's help fellow moms out... share your kids' go to lunches below :)

When we think about raising regulated kids we think about creating an emotionally healthy and secure environment for them fostering co-regulation, purpose and confidence. We also think about ways to keep inflammation especially brain inflammation low because when brain cells stay fired up and irritated, kids have a harder time sitting still, paying attention, or processing sensory overload. Supporting our children from birth aspects is of upmost importance.

Artificial food dyes are linked to neurobehavioral issues like hyperactivity, irritability, anxiety, impuksive behaviors, and decreased focus, particularly in children. For those reasons no food dyes is a non-negotiable.

Gluten sensitivity is becoming a more common reason for brain inflammation in children and symptoms include severe irritability, sudden tantrums, brain fog, anxiety, and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)-like behaviors. Brain symptoms like this are more common than gut symptoms. For that reason most of thy team's children are gluten free.

As mentioned above regulation starts with us. Our own emotional and physical state directly shapes how our children regulate. Kids cannot fully regulate their emotions independently and rely heavily on our co-regulation through stable relationships, modeling, and emotional support.

Raising regulated kids today looks different than just 20 years ago, requires intentional effort, daily patience, lots of grace, inner work and purposeful co-regulation. We would be lying if we said we have it all figured out. We definitely don't but these are the impactful things we are prioritizing in today's world. This looks like going against the norm and that's okay with us.

We're in this together....We'd love to hear your helpful insights that could help others.

How you trying to raise regulated kids today, too?

Much love and grace -

The WN team

Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome (PMOS), formerly known as PCOS, is a multi-system metabolic condition rather than just a reproductive disorder.

The conventional management often includes bandaids that mask symptoms like birth control pills, metformin and anti-androgenic medications such as spironolactone.

In functional medicine/nutrition we go upstream. We understand the pathways and systems that are all connected that impact the hormone imbalances.

This story like many over the years is what is possible when we help women support and address these root cause systems. When we make this a lifestyle. When we connect the dots, explain how these are all connected and how you can make meaningful changes to support these systems. That's when symptoms improve, inflammation decreases, hormones balance, digestion normalizes, fertility and quality of life improve and so much more!

Hope is found in...
•Regulating insulin and blood sugar
•Dialing in diet and lifestyle
•Balancing the gut microbiome
•Intentional movement
•Restoring deficiencies
•Improving bile and liver flow and reducing toxins
•Healthy stress management
•Targeted supplements as needed
•Testing and not guessing

Remember hormone symptoms are a warning sign of upstream dysfunction and metabolic chaos - not a root cause. Listen to the whispers before they become screams.

Cheers to hope and hormone healing!

A collection of recent questions you've asked and we've answered....eczema edition part 1.

Eczema can seem lonely, daunting and leave you questioning so much. We love answering your questions that may help in any way.

It's also why we offer a one hour free consult (unheard of typically). We want to get tito know your whole story, symptoms, timeline, and more so we can make the best testing recommendations as well as leave you with a few takeaways you can start implementing immediately.

We pray these reach whoever needs them.

Follow along on stories as we frequently do Q&As on a wide variety of topics.

PMOS is a metabolic-immune-inflammatory condition—not just an ovarian or reproductive issue. Understanding this and then finding and addressing your drivers/factors can bring significant symptom relief, restored ovulation, improved fertility, healthy weight management and so much more!

Treating only the downstream hormonal symptoms with birth control, metformin or GLP1s without also addressing diet, lifestyle and the foundational, root-level imbalances... falls short.

Research shows you can restore ovulation by up to 60 - 70% when these imbalances are addressed.

Stay tuned for a PMOS healing story.

We had the pleasure of dining at the new Sprout Bistro this weekend and it's most definitely a destination to add to your foodie list or if you're like us it's now added to the list of regular dining rotation.

From the moment we stepped through the door it felt like stepping back in time. The warm hospitality and service, the unhurried atmosphere and the diner vibe reminded us of an era when dining was meant to be savored rather than rushed. We truly felt welcomed and invited to slow down and be truly present.

We of course deeply appreciate that they prioritize the quality of their ingredients, offer a wide variety of gluten free options and have a commitment to farm to table ingredients. Their thoughtfully crafted dishes bring flavors together that leave your mouth watering for more. The kimchi brussel sprouts being one of them. We also enjoyed the fried pickles, bistro burger and chicken shwarma that were all exceptionally delicious.

Whether you're looking for a date night spot, brunch with the fam, or an evening of good food with friends,we highly recommend making time to experience Sprout Bistro.

Cheers!

We've helped many children and adults with eczema over the years but personally living it for the past 5 months has given me even more profound empathy, perspective and has lit an internal fire to help more and more children and adults who are on the eczema journey find lasting relief.

Moms we see you! Trying everything to find your child relief sleepless nights trying to calm the itch, the food fear, guestioning everything including your environment and al that comes with possible mold. We see you doing everything to help your child. Hugs! We're here for you!

Eczema isn't just a skin issue
Eczema isn't just a matter of eliminating foods
Eczema isn't a steroid deficiency
Eczema isn't a lack of moisturizing lotions
Eczema isn't usually helped by just taking a random probiotic
Eczema isn't a lifelong condition with no hope for lasting relief

Eczema is...
The perfect storm of contributing factors
An inflammatory immune condition that leads to imbalances and symptoms in multiple systems and shows up on the skin
A toxin bucket that is overflowing and asking for someone to help slowly drain it
A damaged skin barrier that needs gentle support not a bleach bath
Often times a damaged gut microbiome that is screaming for help rebalancing
Sometimes an environmental issue that is creating imbalances within and recurring flares

There's hope for lasting relief in....
Digging deeper
Getting the full picture and history with personalized testing
Honoring the body's capacity
Slowly and gently emptying the bucket improving drainage and detox capacity
Calming the immune / histamine response
Supporting the skin barrier
Replenishing nutrients and enzymes
Addressing the environment if needed
Strategically addressing the gut microbiome when the body is ready
Repairing the gut lining
Bringing foods back in slowly

So grateful to be on the other side and proof of what's possible. The WN team is here to help.

Last week was a stressful week but it was also a beautiful reminder that some of the best and most powerful forms of medicine are those things that bring us JOY and naturally support our biology. Things that are mostly free. Things that make us feel fully alive. Things that fill our cup.

As week head into the week remember...
Anything that brings you JOY and supports your body's natural ability to heal is MEDICINE.

If stress can cause sickness,it stands to reason then that joy can cause healing.

Going back to the basics is medicine.
Real food
Faith
Laughter
Dancing
Time in nature
Awe and wonder
Strength training
Sport
Connecting with loved ones
Reading
Walking
Sunshine
Disconnecting from social media

Cheers to filling ourselves with medicine that nourishes from the inside out, creates a solid foundation and builds resiliency.
