Why is this the hardest sentence for a mama to actually believe? 🤍

You can hear it from your partner, your mom, your best friend, and your brain still goes “...are you sure?”

So here it is, nice and big, in case you needed it today:
You’re a great mom. The fact that you worry about it at all is proof.

The meltdown is not the problem. It is the last thing to show up.

By the time your kiddo is on the floor of the grocery store, the hard part already happened. It happened hours ago, or days ago.

Here is what actually builds to it. A body that did not sleep well. A rushed morning. Three transitions before 9am. A classroom that is loud all day. A stomach that is quietly uncomfortable. A nervous system that has been running at capacity since it woke up and has no margin left in it.

Then something small happens, and there is nowhere for it to go.

We spend enormous energy as parents trying to manage the last thirty seconds. Almost none of the useful work lives there.

The useful work is upstream, and it is about capacity. How much can this system handle before it tips, and how fast can it come back down once it does.

That is measurable. That is what we scan for. And it is the thing that actually moves.

You are not failing at discipline. You are parenting a child with no margin.

If you’re ready to see where your little one’s nervous system is sitting, send us a message and we would love to help🤍

Meet Alexis, the warm, friendly face greeting you at our front desk! 🤍

Alexis grew up right here in Altoona and now lives in Ankeny with her husband, Santos, and their “little zoo”: three pups (Lucky, Ivy, and Xena) and a kitty named Pepper. Never a dull moment at their house!

She was drawn to Access because she loves the idea of supporting families through every season of life, from pregnancy and postpartum to watching little ones grow. Her hope is that every family who walks through our door feels welcomed, cared for, and truly part of the Access family.

A few fun things about Alexis:
☀️ Go-to coffee order: a banana bread latte (fall in a cup!)
☀️ Loves baking, reading, and slow, cozy moments at home
☀️ She’s starting her own homemade cinnamon roll business! (Yes, we’re already lining up for a taste test.)

Next time you’re in, be sure to say hi and give her a big Access welcome! ✨

Your baby isn't a "bad sleeper." 🤍

If you're up at 2am (again) wondering what you're doing wrong, mama, hear this first: you're not doing anything wrong. Sleep is a nervous system skill. When a little one's system is stuck in go mode, settling into deep rest is really hard, no matter how perfect the routine is.

That's why, when a family comes to us for sleep, we don't start with schedules. We start with their story.

Birth. A long labor, a fast one, a C-section, or a little help from forceps or vacuum can all leave tension in the upper neck, right where the brainstem lives.

Pregnancy. Stress, illness, or a baby who spent weeks in a tricky position can set the stage before your little one is even here. We call this the Perfect Storm.

The nervous system. Our INSiGHT scans show us how much stress your little one's body is holding, and whether it's able to shift out of go mode and into rest.

That little neck. The top of the neck sits right next to the brainstem, the part that helps run the sleep-wake switch. Tension there makes it harder for the body to regulate.

The tummy. Gas, spit-up, and an uncomfortable belly will wake a little one every time. Digestion and sleep are deeply connected.

What's changed lately. New teeth, a cold, a growth spurt, the time change. Fall is full of shifts for little bodies.

Notice how much of this is history, not symptoms. That's where the root cause usually is, and it's where we start supporting your little one's body to regulate and rest.

You deserve support and options, mama. If this sounds like your family, we'd love to meet you. And send this to a mama friend who's running on no sleep 🤍

I've been there. 🤍

When Olivia was born, feeding was supposed to be the natural part. It wasn't.

She had tongue and lip ties. My supply was low. I pumped every two hours, day and night, spent hundreds of dollars on supplements, and researched until my eyes hurt. I still felt like I was failing her.

And I help mamas with this every single week in our office.

Maybe your story looks a little different:
Your baby pulls back and stiffens after nearly every feed.
You've changed formulas more than once, hoping the next one is the answer.
They always look to the same side, and you were told that's just their favorite.
You've explained it all to more than one provider and walked away hearing "make sure you're resting."
You keep notes on your phone so you don't forget anything at the next appointment.

And quietly, you've started to wonder if the real problem is you.

It isn't. You are not overreacting. You are paying attention.

I stopped leaving the house. I stopped reading. I stopped doing pottery. I told everyone I was fine. Feeding struggles rarely live in just one body, and both of you deserve to be looked at.

Send us a message. We'll look at your little one, and we'll look at you too.

One kid catches everything. The other shakes it off in two days. Same house, same germs, same dinner table.

That difference is the terrain. And unlike the germs, the terrain is something you have your hands on.

Here's the piece most families have never been told: immune function takes its orders from the nervous system. A body that's stuck in "go" has a hard time shifting into rest, repair, and drain. That isn't a weak kid. It's a stuck one.

Dr. Kaitlyn walked through all of it at our Village Social, and we turned it into a free Sniffle Season Starter Pack. Inside:

✨ The 4 daily terrain builders we lean on in our own homes
✨ Our "when it hits" natural cabinet, sorted by symptom, with ages and amounts
✨ Humidifier do's and don'ts
✨ The red lines, so you know exactly when to call
✨ The full workshop replay

Your job was never to keep them away from every germ. It's to give them a body that's ready.

Comment SNIFFLE and we'll send it your way 🤍

This is not an x-ray, and it is not a guess. 📈

The question we get most is some version of: what is that thing actually measuring?

Fair question. Here is the plain answer.

INSiGHT scans measure three things, and none of them involve radiation or anything your child will even notice.

Surface EMG reads the electrical activity in the muscles along the spine. That shows us where the body is holding tension it should not have to hold.

Thermography reads temperature patterns along the spine, which reflect how the autonomic nervous system is regulating things like digestion, circulation, and immune response.

Heart rate variability measures adaptability. How well the system shifts between go and rest. It is the closest thing we have to a direct readout of resilience.

Put together, they tell us whether a nervous system is stuck in defense mode or free to regulate and heal. That is the whole thing.

It takes about eight minutes. Most kids think it is fun.

Nobody leaves here still wondering.

DM us Scan and we will get you or your little one scheduled 🤍

October is when kids fall apart, and it is not a coincidence. 🤍

Six weeks into the school year, the novelty has worn off and the demand has not. The days are getting shorter. The first real round of germs is moving through the classroom. Sports and activities are in full swing. Everyone is more tired than they were in August, and nobody has adjusted anything to account for it.

So the kid who was doing beautifully in September starts melting down over socks. Sleep gets worse. The stomach aches come back. The thing you thought you had handled resurfaces out of nowhere.

This is not your child regressing. This is a nervous system running a deficit.

A body under sustained demand with no real recovery shifts into sympathetic dominance and stays there. Everything downstream gets harder: sleep, digestion, immune response, emotional regulation, focus. That pattern has a name, dysautonomia, and it is far more common in kids than anyone talks about.

The answer is not more discipline or a better sticker chart. It is giving the nervous system a road back to baseline.

That is the whole job here. Message us OCTOBER and we will give you the next steps to tackling this sick season.

If you take one thing from this month, take this sentence. 📈

Nobody leaves here still wondering.

Not that we are nice. Not that we are mamas ourselves. Not that we love babies, though every bit of that is true.

It is that when you walk in with something you have noticed and cannot get anyone to take seriously, you walk out with a picture, an explanation, and words you can actually repeat.

Here is what we are building toward. A metro full of mothers who trust what they are seeing in their own children. Where noticing something does not mean six weeks of wondering whether you are overreacting.

October is a good month to start.

And if you would rather meet us before you book anything at all, The Village Social is this Saturday, October 3, at 8:30 AM. Coffee, other mamas, no pitch. Details in our stories.

The thing families notice first is almost never the thing they came in for. 🤍

A mama brings her son in for reflux and calls us three weeks later about his sleep.

A family comes in for a head that only turns one way and mentions, almost as an afterthought, that the witching hour stopped.

Every child is different, and care is never a guarantee. But what we hear is remarkably consistent, and it is rarely just the one thing.

Here is why. When a nervous system is stuck in defense mode, everything downstream runs harder than it should: sleep, digestion, immune response, mood, focus. Support the system itself and you are not chasing one symptom. You are changing the terrain all of it is happening in.

Swipe for what families actually tell us, in their own words.

If you want this kind of support for your crew, send us a message and we will walk you through what starting looks like.
