Carl Brian Lipscomb, 55, of Pinch passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 27, 2026, at home. He was born in South Charleston, West Virginia, on January 25, 1971, to Carl and Ella Snodgrass Lipscomb.

Brian was a Christian and lifelong member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. He graduated from South Charleston High School in 1989 and Liberty University in 1995. Growing up, Brian was known for his sense of humor, laughter, love of football and generosity to those he loved. Next to his family and his faith, Brian’s greatest love was flying. After college, Brian joined the West Virginia Air National Guard where he served with distinction as a C-130 pilot both at home and abroad including active duty in the Kosovo, Iraq, and Afghanistan Wars. He treasured memories made with friends and fellow service members as well as his travels around the world.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his daughter Larissa Lipscomb of Hurricane and her mother, Donna. He is also survived by his sisters Mary Beth Mathis (Theron) of Louisville, KY, and Amy Lipscomb Livers (Joseph) of Brookville, IN; nephews and niece Chandler (Rosemary), Colman, and Christian Mathis of Louisville, KY; and Emma, Noah, and Justus Livers of Brookville, IN; as well as extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents Elmer and Mary Snodgrass and Talmon (Tad) and Gladys Lipscomb, along with cherished aunts and uncles.

Visitation will be held at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church at 58 Mt. Pleasant Drive, Elkview, West Virginia, on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, at 11:00 am. A Memorial Service will follow beginning at 1:00 pm with the Pastor Lee Swor and Pastor Tommy Barlett officiating. Interment will follow at Elk Memorial Gardens with military honors. Arrangements are in the care of Curry Funeral Home of Alum Creek.

Micheal Mawer Meadows passed away peacefully at home in his sleep on August 21st, 2026.

He is survived by his wife Yetta, his daughter April, and his sister and brother-in-law Debbie and Doug Powell. He also loved his six step children and his 15 grandchildren.

Mike was very proud to be from Lincoln County, WV and to have graduated from Duval High School. He was equally as proud to have graduated from Marshall University.

During his life, Mike worked in construction, taught history and was an assistant football coach at Duval High School & was a Senior Buyer at the State of WV Purchasing Division.

He was recruited by Marshall University for the position of Director of Facilities Planning and Management. His first project at MU was the Marshall University Football Stadium.

Additional buildings on Marshall’s campus include the John Deaver Drinko Library, the Arthur Weisburg Family Applied Engineering Complex, the Joan C. Edwards Performing Arts Center, the Robert C. Byrd Biotechnology Science Center, the MU Forensic Science Center and many more.

Off campus buildings in Huntington, WV include the MU Medical Center, the Edwards Comprehensive Cancer Center and the Erma Ora Byrd Clinical Center. Also the Marshall Mid-Ohio Valley Center located in Point Pleasant, WV and the Marshall University Graduate College in South Charleston, WV.

His final project was the conversion of the campus of Mountwest Community & Technical College in Huntington, WV.

Mike enjoyed hunting, fishing and having fun with his friends. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to any American Veterans Association.

Robert L. Young, 86, of Alum Creek, entered Heaven August 27, 2026, after a brief illness.

II Cor. 5:8, We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.

Bob was the second child born to the late Robert Franklin and Bessie Hanson Young. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Larry and David.

He graduated from Duval High School in 1958 and joined the United States Army, enlisted from 1959-1963, stationed in Germany. On an extended leave, he dropped off an Army buddy in Oak Hill, WV. That’s where he met the love of his life, the late Shirley Ball Young. Shirley passed in 2016, but they shared 49 years of marriage and two daughters.

Bob is survived by his daughters, Lisa Young of Alum Creek and Debbie (Michael) Quintrell of Yawkey; siblings, Vada Young of Alum Creek and Pansy Holstein of Danville; nephews, Robert and Wayne Holsein and many friends.

Bob was a member of Eden Baptist Church. He loved his church family and was a faithful attendee until the last three weeks when his health failed.

Service will be 1:00pm, Sunday, August 30, 2026, at Eden Baptist Church, Griffithsville with Pastors Rick Cooper and Jason Price officiating. Burial will follow at Forks of Coal Memorial Park, Alum Creek. Friends and family will gather one hour prior to the service at the church.

Dr. Phil E. Suiter departed this earthly life and entered his eternal home with his heavenly Father on August 26, 2026. His life began on October 6, 1932, at Guthrie Hospital in Huntington, West Virginia.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Derward and Bethel Wallace Suiter, who resided in Bradrick, Ohio, just east of Chesapeake; his wife of sixty years, Frieda Adkins Suiter; and three siblings: Phyllis Poynter of Chesapeake, Ohio; Bonnie Moore of South Point, Ohio; and William Suiter of Chesapeake, Ohio.

He is survived by his wife, Burnis Wolf Suiter, and his five children: Pamela Jeffcott (Tom) of Cedar City, Utah; Kimberly Cook (Scott) of Buffalo, West Virginia; Dr. Kevin Suiter (Grace) of Indianapolis, Indiana; Jonathan Suiter of St. Albans, West Virginia; and Patrick Suiter (Mara Lee) of Willow Grove, North Carolina. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

He served in the United States Army during the Korean War and was stationed at Aberdeen Proving Ground in Aberdeen, Maryland. His first teaching assignment came during his military service, when he was responsible for instructing the men in his company in the use of the weaponry they would be expected to employ after deployment.

Dr. Suiter held degrees from Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia; Miami University in Oxford, Ohio; and The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio, where he earned his doctorate in 1969.

He began his professional career in 1957 as a teacher at Chesapeake High School and later served as principal of that same school. He subsequently accepted a faculty position at Marshall University, where he served until 1972. He then joined the West Virginia Department of Education in Charleston, first serving as Director of Professional Development. In that role, he worked with West Virginia’s four-year colleges in the preparation of teachers for the state’s local school systems. He later served as Assistant State Superintendent, leading the Bureau of Learning Systems for the West Virginia Department of Education.

In 1980, Dr. Suiter resigned from the West Virginia Department of Education, sensing God’s call to redirect his years of experience in public education toward Christian ministry and the advancement of private Christian and homeschool education in West Virginia. That decision marked a significant turning point in his life and career, as he devoted the years that followed to Christian education, pastoral ministry, and public-policy efforts affecting Christian schools and homeschooling families. While serving as a pastor, he organized the Family Policy Council of West Virginia to promote family and Christian concerns before the West Virginia Legislature.

Dr. Suiter was a principal architect and advocate of the 1983 Exemption K legislation and Article 28, securing broad independence for Christian and other nonpublic schools. The legislation was approved by both the House of Delegates and the Senate without amendment to the language he had prepared and was signed into law by Governor Jay Rockefeller.

Dr. Suiter directed the work of the West Virginia Christian Education Association for several years and served on the Board of the American Association of Christian Schools. In collaboration with Dr. Charles Walker and others, he helped develop the AACS Accreditation Manual and chaired accreditation teams across the country, all while also serving as a pastor. In recent years, he authored and published two books addressing issues related to Christian education that were written especially for leaders within the American Association of Christian Schools. These works reflected his years of experience in education and continue to be used in the training and professional development of Christian school leaders.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Phil was deeply devoted to his family and took great interest in the lives and welfare of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, praying for them faithfully each day. He grew up singing with his siblings and passed that love of music on to his own children. Family gatherings, particularly at holidays, were especially meaningful to him, and he often expressed gratitude for his Christian upbringing, his years growing up on a farm, and the lessons in hard work and responsibility that those early years had taught him.

Phil was born again in a corn field on the banks of Indian Guyan Creek on November 11, 1946 during a week of revival services. He was an avid reader and a lifelong student of the Bible. He possessed an extensive knowledge of Scripture and remained deeply engaged with theological issues throughout his life. Perhaps his greatest spiritual concern in his later years was that those around him clearly understand the biblical meaning of the new birth and the necessity of a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

Funeral services for Dr. Phil Suiter will be held at noon on Thursday, September 10, at Cross Lanes Bible Church, 5442 Big Tyler Road, Cross Lanes, WV. Pastor Charles Phelps of Colonial Hills Baptist Church in Indianapolis will officiate. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. Burial at Highland Memorial Gardens, 198 Private Road, South Point, Ohio, will take place at 3:00 for those who wish to attend with military honors by American Legion Post 93, Kenova, WV.

Memorial gifts in Dr. Suiter’s memory may be made to one or both of the following causes, each of which was dear to Phil and his family:

Norma (Lovejoy) Smith, 87, of Tornado, West Virginia, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, of a long-term illness at Arbors Nursing Home in Gallipolis, Ohio. She is preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Burnie, and her son Teddy Joe. She is also preceded by her parents, Mitchey and Daisy (Bell) Lovejoy, brothers Bobby and Cleo, sisters Dean, Violet, Genevieve, and Ellie.

Norma is survived by her children Carl (Gail), her daughter- in-law Teresa (Ted’s loving wife), Terry (Melody), Anthony (Joyce), Charles, Curtis (Heather), and Kathy (Bobby) Gray. Mamaw deeply loved her grandchildren, Sarah (John) Walls, Crystal (Jason) Hager, Brandon (Stacey), Amber, Beth, Kellie (Shawn) Aldridge, Addison (Arianna), Morgan (Rachel), Kayleen, Mackenzie Heinaman, and her step-grandson Jacob Hugg. She adored her great-grandchildren Braelyn O’Neal, Ryker O’Neal, Evan Walls, Lily Walls, Ana Toro, Felix, Maverick, and step-great-grandchild Jackson Aldridge. She is also survived by her brother, Curtis (Ruby) and sisters, Juanita Gillespie and Evelyn (Denny) Asbury. She held a special place in her heart for her niece, Cindy Lusk, who always made sure that Mom and her sisters were able to get together.

Mom loved Thanksgiving, which is when all of the family got together over the holiday. She would spend a month planning it all out. We ate a lot, laughed a lot, and had an annual “girl’s day” going Black Friday shopping. Everyone knew how she loved and tended to her flower gardens, especially her roses. You would find her on the first warm spring days digging in the dirt. She and Dad raised gardens, chickens, pigs, goats, honeybees, fruit trees, and berry bushes. What didn’t go into the dinner table or was given away was canned, to be enjoyed during the winter months. And no one topped her pinto beans, fried potatoes, and cornbread - or biscuits and gravy.

She spent her life raising her kids and caring for the home while they traveled with Dad’s Air Force career, from Florida, to Alaska, Ohio, finally settling on Coal River Road in Lincoln County. Mom had the kindest and most sensitive heart, was tough when times were hard, and was always resilient. It wasn’t uncommon for her to help build a house, wipe a child’s tear, make a full dinner, and care for her mother or father-in-law during the end of their elderly years, all in the same day.

Mom’s absence here on earth will be felt by many but her spirit lives on in all that she loves. She’s our guardian angel now.

A special thank you to the loving staffs at English Meadows (Lavender Hills) in Scott Depot and Arbors Nursing Home of Gallipolis, Ohio. We could never thank you enough for the kindness you gave our mother during her last few years. And to Curry Funeral Home for always being there for us.

A wake will be held on Friday, August 28 from 6-8pm at Curry Funeral Home in Alum Creek, West Virginia. The funeral will be at Curry’s on Saturday, August 29th at 2pm with family friend Dakota Smith officiating. Burial will be at Forks of Coal Cemetery. Following will be a potluck dinner celebrating Norma at Church of God community building in Sumerco.

Jerry Lee Wooten, 84, formerly of Alum Creek WV was born June 4, 1942 in Culloden, WV, peacefully made his heavenly journey home into the arms of Jesus on August 19, 2026.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Dina Wooten; daughter, Bonnette Hinton; sister, Ruth Bays; grandchildren, Casey, Josh, and Christina.

He is survived by his wife, Kathy; children, Chris (Barbara) Wooten, Judy (Roger) Bryant, and Terri (Kevin) Tornes; stepson Jeff (Clarice) Ward; son-in-law Bill Hinton, brother, Clyde Wooten; sister, Peggy Wooten; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

Special Thanks to his friend Mark and the CICU team at WVU/ United Hospital Bridgeport.

Jerry was a retired pipe fitter and welder from Union Carbide Corporation Institute Plant and a true jack of all trades throughout his life. He never met a stranger and would go out of his way to help anyone, always with a smile on his face. Jerry loved the Lord and could not wait to meet Him.

Edgel Dean Perkins, 89, passed away peacefully following a short illness on August 18, 2026, in Longs, South Carolina; formerly of Scott Depot, West Virginia.

He was born on July 11, 1937, to Julia and Delbert Perkins. Dean grew up in West Virginia and graduated from Saint Albans High School. He proudly served his country as a United States Army Veteran.

Dean was a devoted husband to his late wife, Margaret Perkins, as well as a loving father and grandfather. He found joy in West Virginia athletics, talking to his cherished neighbors, and eating sweets—from cookies to candy. He will be remembered for his kindness, thoughtfulness, and always being there for others.

He is survived by his only son, Alan Dean Perkins (Lisa); grandchildren, Allison Perkins (Wes), Alan Dean Perkins Jr. “AJ,” and RC Cole (Ashley); great-grandchildren, Aubree, Mia, and Cooper; and his sisters, Jean, Patty (Mike), and Betty, along with their families.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Julia and Delbert Perkins; his wife, Margaret Perkins; brother, Bill Perkins; and granddaughter, Autumn Cole.

Lemuel Ward “Charlie” Adkins, Jr., 60, of Woodville passed away Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at home.

Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, Lemuel & Norma Jean Ashworth Adkins; sisters, Norma Adkins and Susan Callahan.

He is survived by his sisters, Pauline Adkins and Gertrude Willis; brother, Andrew “Pork” Adkins; several nieces and nephews.

Charlie will be cremated and a memorial service will be held at a later date.
