Why does recovery seem to take longer as we get older?
The bodyβs ability to repair tissue depends heavily on circulation and cellular activity. When an injury occurs, the body sends oxygen, nutrients, and specialized cells through the bloodstream to begin repairing the affected area.
As we age, blood flow to certain tissues can gradually decrease, particularly in structures like tendons, ligaments, and joints. At the same time, the cellular processes responsible for repairing damaged tissue may become less efficient. This combination can slow the overall healing timeline.
Because of this, treatments that support circulation and tissue repair are sometimes used. At Creek Stone Integrated Medical in Amarillo, therapies such as PRP and laser therapy are used to help stimulate the bodyβs natural healing response in areas where recovery has slowed.
